in israel its pritty far from mainstream hey!
infected and skazi maybe is , from the second they stop make psytrance and just colibrate with israeli artists like erez netz and MC big kaki...

since when u can say perfect stranger or bliss is known like rita or like ehud banai lol now thats mainstream.. u do remember ninet got more then milion shekels to cut her hair right? now thats mainstream.. if someone pay 1 shekel for trance producer pubes i will be amazed

from working in weddings couple of years where its mainstream for real , not in some telaviv kiosk.. includ all people from all ages "trance" has only 2 hits (hit n run + insane , used to be city of the future) and 1 spiritual healing keeps playing all this years.. yalla sim Huan sim Huan heheh thats your mainstream

offcourse after saying that , we can agree that there is huge crowd for psytrance in israel for sure.. like 4-5 big festivals with over 3000 peaple.. thats respectfull totaly , but remember shlomo artzi fill alone ceasaria stadium with no lineup from europe not to mention real mainstream get easy aprove to make shows in places like mezada lets see how we can get aprove to make rave there.. i dont think that easy , maybe asher haviv can pull it off with amazing talent to make the system believe its in their own benefit to make it (al-sam sponsored ganey huga hehe - thats mainstream i agree!!)

outside of israel .. well .. when 12 years old girls in USA will buy psy then we know its out there... for now open mtv and just see what is realy mainstream.. sure no Atmos there lol..

I doubt it, there are big psy acts like infected and astrix now but they dont really represent true psytrance or the real culture. Im pretty sure that heavy, intricate, intelligent styles of psy will always remain underground.

You have to separate between what the Media Branja thinks it's mainstream to what the youth considers mainstream. You mention names like Rita, Ninet and Ehud Banay. Be sure that there are more people in Israel (youth mainly) that knows and loves Infected Mushroom, Skazi, Astrix and they are just the top of the pyramid. The fact that there's a problem translating what the rest are doing (let's say Perfect Stranger) into money from the Media Branja is totally another issue. It's interesting that you mention Ninet for instance because I work in the very company that paid her the absurd amount of money to cut her hair. I can't mention on these pages how disconnected this company from the youth and how they are mislead by this "media branja". I think that the first big company that will connect better with "our" crowd will surely get a bigger draw to their products. They can sell us her shiny forehead as much as they want but really she interests a very small percentage amount of youth in Israel and their parents usually have deep pockets and they usually live in Tel Aviv-Hertzelya-Ramat Ha Sharon.
Psy Trance is absolutely everywhere here. It influences even Mizrahit!

From a local point of view, it's already mainstream. If you happen to see a launched party with 15.000+ people where nobody knows how to differ a well skilled DJ from a dancing-on-the-table-smiling-gogo-boy DJ you would think like me. The biggest atractions? SPACEBAR LIVE ACTS. For me, when there is an essency loss, it's already mainstream...
But i really hope that GOOD QUALITY music will always remain underground, considering the fact that every now and then some nerd and weird producer/DJ comes to my city to play and just a few people get REALLY excited to listen to them while the people that go to the big parties don't even notice the fact. It's mainstream, but considering that we're dealing with the human mind, if you search well, you'll find what you're looking for. Mainstream and undergroun will always walk along.

IMO "Psytrance" is basically just one riff over and over again; i really don't see how that could become some mainstream musical trend. Maybe it could become the norm in the club scene for a couple years, but certainly not top-40 material

yes i know psytrance is mainstream in israel, i live hear and its almost impossible not hear it walking in the city or to find at least 3 parties every week. im talking about the rest of the world like europe or america where the scene is still pretty underground.

Duvdev from Infected Mushroom gave an interview to my friends about 5 yrs ago and said already that psy trance is so much mainstream in Israel that he's like a pop star at home so when he crushes his car gossip magazines write about it... that's pretty mainstream indeed

as for the rest of the world, well, not sure but think so.. you can find talkings about psy trance on hungarian MTV channel already (of course they call it GOA and illustrate it with either showing a Goa Gil party video or a Yahel clip, lol) which is quite a good start on the way to mainstream imho..

but of course there is and will always be psy trance music which remains underground (because its just not for the masses) while the other part of this genre breaks thru to reach those masses           www.psylife.net

1st- I gotta say that I belive we already had a post like this one...

2nd,

I belive that as RnR was a side show at the 50's-60's and no one had even considered to think it will be mainstream ever - it did 30 years later.
As I belive Electronic music on all of her styles will become mainstream in about 10-20 years from now...

I can support this by sending you to check the "Rock Werchter" line-up over the years...
