Hey there,

Im planning to get my firt hardware synth soon, but could need a little advice now...

At first i wanted to get the new Arturia Minibrute wehen it comes out. Its analog, has some coool features and would replace my old midi keyboard (its smaller and has aftertouch).

I am a little concerned though as its only monophonic and has no ability to save presets.
I was browsing the web today to see what other options i have in that price range.
I dont want to spend more than 600 or 700€ and it should be an analog synth.
Seems stuff like Microkorg, Korg R3, Roland SH01 Gaia or Novation Ultranova would be good choices aswell...but Im totally unsure now which of these are good and worth the money...Any advice?

i'm not familiar with these synths but i think all the following are virtual analog or analog modelling...

you'll not be getting a polyphonic analog synth with a keyboard for <700€.
the cheapest i guess would be the dsi prophet 08 at around 1900€.
a quick search at thomann gave two options for an analog synth with keyboard for under 800€:
arturia mini brute and dave smith mopho.

they're both pretty cool sounding. check their specs so you know how they differ.

perhaps you should consider a 2nd hand synth or re-think a) your budget or b) what qualities in a synth are the most important ones for you (polyphony? multitimbrality? what kind of sound engine? keyboard or not? inputs and outputs? hands on or menu browsing? etc.)
if you're not sure what you want then it's better you go to a music store and start testing out different synths and searching for info on the web. after a while you realise what qualities you prefer and what options you have.

You could consider a Moog little phatty second hand or the new Minitaur (but it hasnt a kb).

Other MONO analog options in your budget: Analogue solutions liepzig

Check out this store they have all thing analog:

I see, its not that easy...again
the Minibrute really looks awesome and it seems I cant get a decent polysynth with all features I like for that budget.

Yeah, in the end the descision wasn't that hard. I compared it some more with other stuff and I am pretty sure now that it will be a good buy.

I just hope they start to ship it soon...I hardly can wait any longer ^^           My first track:

The evolver is pretty nice synth, i have it for like 2-3 weeks now.
It has 2 Analog oscilators with sync, 2 digital oscilators with many waveshapes (with Fm), noise generator, 2 Pole and 4 pole self oscilating Low pass filter, high pass filter.
It has a really good distortion and output hack (similar to distortion) Feedback distortion, 2 delay effects, 4 Lfo's syncable with host tempo and 3 envelopes and 4 sequencers!
If u like a little bit from everything, this synth is the way to go, also its really cheap, around 300 - 400 euros           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

Hey that sounds great also. I just looked it up but cant find out if its poly and if so, how many voices it has.
Also a new one will cost 500€ too, and that without a keyboard.
Could be a good candidate for the second one, but that will have to wait...at least until end of the year           My first track:

The Poly version costs 2399 euro

This one is nice also from the same guy

Its still 499 and that without a keyboard...but after cheking all that stuff, I see that a lot of (probably great) synths have no keyboard.

Im not so much into hardware synths yet, but I guess I can control them all with a controller keyboard as long as it has a MIDI-out, am I right there?

Btw...I had another serious GAS attack and I think I will buy me a new controller keyboard tomorrow. (Novation Impulse 49). My old one with its few knobs only is just not doing it anymore(EMU Xboard)....           My first track:

If u need only keyboard, take this one:

http://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/M-Audio-Venom-Virtuell-Analoger-Synthesizer/art-SYN0003854-000

It has a good Virtual Analog synth inside also, but you can use the keyboard to control the synth, and if u need extra buttons and knobs, you can take this one:

http://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/Korg-nanoKONTROL-2-black-MIDI-Studio-Controller/art-PCM0010630-000

It's very small but u have everything u need, and u can take it with you if u have gigs

Yeah most of the synths are in Rack versuon and Keyboard version, but i think it's better to buy one keybaord and use it to control all the other synths, because this way u safe a lot of money

Thanks for the hints again but my descision is fixed now^^

The Korg NanoKontrol is just too small for my purpose and doesn't have what I want (knobs, faders, pads, keys).
I choosed the Novation one because it has all that and more and it has the automap control software, which really sounds great (shame that it only comes with novation hardware).

This and the Minibrute(when its finally shipped somewhen) should be a good setup to get more into actually "playing" my instruments...Im a little bored of pushing around midi notes with my mouse           My first track:

if it is your first synth, dont get the r3 and certainly not the microkorg. get something better, maybe look on ebay for a novation k-station or something like that.
