What we seem to call "darkPsy" is for me the new "Goa". Now, I dont mean like the way of life, the spiriutal in spesific. I'm more pointing in the direction of beeing true to the psychedelic tones/sounds ect. "Darkpsy" is to me just as psychedelic as in the good old "Goa"
The reason why me, and most of the readers fell so much in love with psytrance ect in the first place. Was in fact the psychedelic soundscape! Am I wrong? And I dont think that "darkpsy" will get the mainstream attention that psytrance/isratrance as gotten.
But of cource..
The future is inpredictible after all
All I want to say is that "darkpsy" is for me one of the few genres that is still "underground" I say hurray for the brave artists out there that dares to keep the psychedelic movement alive.. *Hurray* Keep our minds spinning.

thank you.

4 known examples of acts that i see as darkpsy:

- Psykovsky
- Fungus Funk
- Neuromotor
- Suria

Is it also melodic as old goa? Cause that's what I (and many others too) liked about old goa.           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

Ah.. I am only refering to the trippyness.. or the psychedelic as i like to call it. Of cource you are both right. Its not melodic. But as I said. This is about the psychedelic picture

To me, the fact if a track is psychedelic or not (and I guess we have tons of definitions of the word “psychedelic” on this forum alone), has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion on a track. The reason why I started listening to goa (and later psytrance) was the melodies, the atmosphere and the rich soundscapes.

I do like some of the new dark psy though, but in my opinion some of these artists focus too much on the “psychedelic” part – resulting in “put as many twisted sounds in this track as possible” (and I’m not even sure I would call that psychedelic). I personally don't think this kind of music is any more true to the original goa-spirit, than Israeli melodies, progressive with tribal elements or deep progressive trance.

That is of course only my opinion.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Psytones-- I'm with you, man.

Don't get me wrong, I love nice melodies and they certainly have their place in psy, but what overriding feature sets this style of music apart from other electronic genres?
The twisted, far out and, erhm, "psychedelic" sounds.
So-called "dark psy" is striking me as a return to the roots of an insane sound collage of order and complexity.

It's not melodic, as in having a defined melody, but the rythm's and beats put you in such a state of trance, that it becomes melodic to me.....Just my opinon....

ive always been more into the darker stuff, its kind of weird because i remember when GMS use to make the "dark psy" and now they seem cheesey.
For me the best dark psy tracks still always have a melody somewhere. The tracks that are all just blips and FM buzzing sounds arent pyschedelic, they are just driving, dark, synthesiser wanking tracks.

i must reply to this, i have never really replied to any of these darkpsy topics before i think (i might be going senile though so who knows)

most of what i heard in "dark" psy has not impressed me musically. i found it to have a very hard drive and powerfulll dancefloor power yet with no point. sometimes i got the point and i thought it was weak. i dont connect with samples of horror, i dont see why i need to be scared/stressed or frightened when im dancing. i dont want to generalize ofcourse, that would be foolish and irresponsible of me... i have enjoyed Penta very much, to name some more: n3xu5 and i consider digital talk to be dark. i seem to turn off from mostly everything else, but to stay respectful, no names need to be mentioned - to each his own.

regarding your comparison to goa.... i disagree - i dont think that is where cutting edge psychedelia is today. i consider what comes out of Eskimo, Psysex, Pixel+Domestic, Wrecked Machines, Silicon Sound in that genre and what comes out of Sun Control Species, Sensient etc in their genre to be far more psychedelic and innovative, both in production sense and in new sounds. i would classify Doof Records to make an example as my definition of undeground music. but ofcourse AGAIN, to each his own.

I wouldnt agree to the comparison either. it doesnt give the same feeling at all. there are very few dak psy tracks that are nice for me.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

I fully disagree in every possible aspect of the notion. You're treading on sacred ground here pal!

Hehe.. i knew I was stepping on sacret ground while writing this thread basilisk
. And deepflux said it for me with the quote above. I didnt directly compare "Goa" to "darkpsy" in the whole picture kinda way. I was only refering to the psychedelic part. "Goa" is to me one of the genres that are true to the psy consept. I feel that music like, "IM - IM the supervisor", Astrix ect ect ect are not true to the psyscene at all. So I was just honering a music form that are seemingly "hated" by many people that are searching for.. psychedelic trance music. I'm not talking about yours or my taste. Look at it objectivly. And Traveller, i get the feeling you dont know what psychedelic is if it hit you in the face

Uncle Bob also said something about Goa that I agree to:

check out stuff like bug funk, dtatcult etc..... damn these guys are insane ........ i find the goa touches so evident in their music ........ immense psychedelia with some insane dancefloor mayhem .......

dark psy is here to stay and is with no doubt still an underground movememt ........... i wonder where dark psy will head once it goes commercial?? ....

peace
