These guys are trying to get atention. To make people see them, and actually try to follow them.
Why does KISS guys dress like that?Spit "blood" and all that crap?
Why OZZY OSBOURNE eats the head of a bat in the middle of the stage? (or pretends to)
Why does Marylin Manson dresses like a creep?
They don't care about the bad imagine the're creating. Cause "some" people will feel connected to their actions. Cause this is just pure propaganda. They create an image so people can assimilate them, to their music. Try MARK "XENOMORPH" for example...
As for movies, I also agree with Alias. I don't think we can compare music to films, in this matter. ROMAN POLASNKI is considerer to have connections with the evil. So what does he do? Makes "The Ninth Gate" in 1999, a movie that tells the story of guy, who wants to invoque the devil, and assume his powers.
Does he really believe in that?? Maybe. I think not.
Now trying to answer shahar's question:
If you REALLYy believe in this sort of thing, I think the motive would be the interesting part.

Almost the whole psyscene came from metal=\
And i dont care it is deffenetly not metal or even close.Though lately it came closer.
Yeah it is called a pose.ego show off.attempt to shock people.Self expression.whatever maybe they just taked too much.
Attention is what everybody tries to get sometimes.Especialy artists.
So i really thik that the motive can count but it is actually about music.
Xenomorph deffenatly didnt got attention by showing of how cool he is. |

Can someone tell me names of groups/persons that uses HELL/Horror/negative/Splatter/Demonic/Whatever samples, moods and/or drive in their tracks? If you have the time, write up some examples. Xenomorph - Cassandra's Nightmare is of course a prime (good) example. Who else?
And honestly, how many of the persons producing demonic HELL psy-trance do you think enjoys dropping acid and munching shrooms while listening to 'that' sort of tracks? In small portions it will be fun (as long as you don't trip over in bad emotions), like watching a splatter movie. But either way, some dark ambient or some cleaver acid electronic music can and is much more trippie and psychedelic then most of the HELL psy-trance that I have heard. Evil often needs time and space to breath, to do it’s job. Evil isn’t about creating a hyper chaotic world, evil is much wiser then that. It’s a sneaky bastard coming from the inside and out, and not from the outside and in.
Ego-Crushing-Shiva trance. Do you think those people with HELL-trance has a deeper and more light filled agenda? Imo Ego-Crushing-Shiva music does the job much better.
Before you can completely embrace the light, you should face the dark.

What to say except "keep it psychedelic". Controversial imagery/themes for pure shock effect have just as little to do with true psy spirit then other superficial music which is being released. To me "cannibal slaughter xx" (insert random horror name) is not more, not less psychelic then the the lastest Space Cat, Alien Project releases, or Sesto Sento.....or whatever other pop music.
When things become too offensive it becomes a problem, but imo this occures too rarely to make a fuss about it. What to do? Call in the international trance censorship beureau?
Now for the rest I can really only speak for myself, from what I feel right now and what Ive always felt in the 10 years Ive loved the psy-culture, music and everything that goes with it.
For me Trance -the music, the state, the experience has never been a smooth ride. I have had the most revealing and wonderful moments of my life, and some of the darkest, wierdest.
To me there have been times when insanity and clarity have gone hand in hand. Sometimes I didnt know wether to laugh or cry, and I just ended up doing both. I have felt like 1000 angels were carrying me and Ive felt like the devil was standing behind me scratching my neck with his claws. 
Sometimes,after dancing for 6 hours straight, I feel like torn to pieces and possesed by a horde of demons fighting over my body. Sometimes I just feel happy
But Ive loved every minute of it!
The "psychedlic circus", the crazy, mad, funny, sad carnival which I love is populated by the mysterious, the mischevious, the wierd, the welcoming, the friendly,the freaky, the indefinable, the indfferent, the good....and yes sometimes the evil. To be it represents life, the whole of it.....amplified a 10000 times.
Of course the aim is always to strive towards the light, but sometimes also the light is not what it seems. And once you have the light, it is fleeting. Maybe you can hold onto it for 1 second, 1 hour, 1 day, a decade? Who knows? Depends on you in my opinion.
For me trance has always been a journey. Physically and mentally. If I drive my car from X to Y to get to a festival/party/gathering I may pass through night, day , tunnels, valleys, mountains, busy cities, remote regions.
I may see sunrises and sunsets. I may see funny things, sad things, horrible things sometimes, wonderful things just as often
All this time,or when I arrive and dance, my mind will be doing the same........travelling and travelling and travelling through all kinds of scenarios. I hope it stays like this forever. Cursed be the day (lol I will only have one thing and not the other.
I sometimes enjoy wallowing (? correct English I hope) myself in darkness like a hippotmus wallows itself in mud. That dosnt mean it will stain my soul or inner,inner self or whatever forever.
So my very final opinion to the concept of hell, demons etc in psytrance is that it has been there for the very beginning. From the first dissacotiation, to the beat of the first tribal drum. And it will stay there untill the very last.
Its part of the journey, and I dont mind. I will pass through "hell" an fair number of times in my existence. Whatever, wherever life, in all its beauty and strangeness chooses to take me.
All is one and will be forever. (IMO)
 to that one day we will all by able to hold onto the light and never let it go again.

ok well I'd like to have an input n this, although I only read the first page...
this style of horro/dark/night/twisted stuff is really nice in the right environment and mood. I come fro a death/black metal background and I like it because ithas that crazy feeling of just letting all your anger and frustration at life out.
Life is very rarely cheesy and full of melodic happy moments for most of us. Life is a struggle. Astruggle to pay bills, to find love, to find what you want to be. Life is a struggle to be accpeted by oneself and by society as whole.
This style for me is an outlet, and it is more focussed on the reality of life than a high pitched melody over a full on bassline.
It seems that thi style is an outlet for people who do not want to make the crap full on than has taken over this scene and made it a haven for ice and "e" kids.
Dark and Suomi style trance is really psychedelic and fun. Go to a party out in a forest, and have a dance and let out all your frustration. The next day you will feel reborn.

Remember that their is mostly your listeners that categorize the music... not the artists themself...
And to the symbols etc is IMO another way to show that the world ain´t gold and green forests... there´s an opposite of that also...
And btw, what do u think about horror movies and such? There´s alot of ppl that like that kinda stuff... are they sick or is something wrong with them too?
I personally feels sick when I see teletubbies etc on the covers or a name "In the hands of Jesus" or some crap like that... But that´s another story!
