I, personally, would really like to hear some Psy-Trance/Hip Hop experiments. But not in the Infected Mushroom "cheese through filter style" but more in the old Outkast with some Roots/DJ Shadow flavour. Of course such initiatives would be slated immediately. I personally tried to make a tune with a rapper friend many years ago and would really like to experiment with him again soon.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Its just more twisted, sometimes life is REALLY twisted. And then the "dark" "pagan" psytrance kicks in! I say just enjoy it, or if you hate it, listen to something else...

Its not about being evil (as in the black and white concpept of beeing good/evil), its feelings, atmosphere etc etc..And yeah it got some of the same feelings as you can find in Black Metal.

And ofcourse it can be psychedelic twisted!            3o~ kriz aka krize 3o~ ....Horrordelic Records.... http://www.horrordelic.com

Ooooh, what a fun topic.

See dictionary definition of psychedelic
"of or noting a mental state characterized by a profound sense of intensified sensory perception, sometimes accompanied by severe perceptual distortion and hallucinations and by extreme feelings of either euphoria or despair."

I think skulls fit into that. I prefer flowers, but darkness has it's own niceness to it.

Lalalala!

Also maybe these artists want Metalheads to pick up their CDs by mistake.

well that was a..thoughtful comment..

Anyway my question is:

Hallucinogen releases an album with a cover consisting of Satan killing little girls and punching babies, the whole deal..people that have listened say it's the best album he's ever done work on.

Does it really matter now?

Sorry if this surprises you, but not all hip ho and rap music is along the lines of mainstream American hip-hop. There's an entire independent scene full of talented artists that goes completely unnoticed..so whatever if you just don't like it, but don't judge..

Simon Posford is not a retard. He doesn't put satanic imagery on covers.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

It's not really the covers that people are concerned about. The covers can only give us a hint of some of the ideas the artists has. But judging a book/cd merely by its cover is generally not a good idea.

And if Hallucinogen comes out with a nasty cover like the one you described most people would think he is just joking or being ironic or perhaps giving the darkness some psychedelic spinn, specially if it turns out to be his best album ever. So no it would not matter to much because Hallucinogen whould have had a psychedelic purpose in mind to make such a cover(though I kind of agree with Pavel's comment above, hehe), and not just simply a death metal headbannger lets pretend we are bad teenage mindset (big difference).

Yeah the problem is not the covers so much, but rather the death metal mindset which seems to be prevalent in our scene and which primary focus is not the true psychedelic experience but the evil/dark feelings which have to do more with other scenes like death metal.

Personally I don't care that much, I mean I can just listen to what I want. The only thing that may be dissapointing is when suddenly you feel like you are in a death metal party and you actually thought you were dancing to the psychedelic spirit with something like the goa tribe where all is enlightment and alien groove. But no you realize its death metal, so It can be dissapointing and a turn off.

But on the other hand maybe death metal does have something good to give to the psychedelic scene if it is done in an inteligent, mature and with a psychedelic mind with soul and heart. Perhaps like Goa Gil spinning tracks with horror samples; because Goa Gil is obviously not a death metal headbannger, so he is at least atempting or pretending to give it all a deeper psychedelic spinn to it. Which sounds like a good thing to me.

Perhaps the dark covers is not the problem, maybe the problem is the superficial teenage mindset apparent in these covers that belong more to other scenes.

Because I agree when people argue that all aspects of life and just about anything can be psychedelic. Yeah but just the same everything can also be non psychedelic. It depends on the mindset.

ok then .. fine ... if thats what works for u (hell , satan , demons) ..watever .. do it .. but at least do it correctly !! wats the point of satanic names , cover artwork etc when the product .. ie the music fails to convey any of that .. just some 150 + bpm really hard trance .. exept for xenomorph older tunes just a handfull of others .. 1 or 2 tracks .. most of the `dark` garbage isnt horror .. just not scary .. so why label it falsely ? .. now thats whats retarded imo ..

I agree with previous posters that if such images and themes are used it has to be well done and in "psy spirit", maybe spiced up with a wink of humour even. When it is done in a childish, non-subtle manner it becomes sad and stupid, especially if the music isnt psychedelic but just "faster, krasser, harder arrrgh".

However, there are also many artists who create excellent psychedelic music using some darker themes condemned in this thread:

The Nommos
Claw
Blisargon Demogorgon....

To name but a few. Imo this is quality stuff and I dont really get any death metal vibe from it.....just pure psychedelia....

(nd if someone does get accidently cannabilised one day I hope it is D-Nox and Beckers or wrecked machines. Id even take a big bite out of that mmmmm.....good riddance.)
