mmmm.....I agree that a pre-release will boost popularity. But it needs to be done correctly , eg. Promo's.

These guys says that they do it for the intent that the DJ or whoever downloads it , will buy the album in future if he likes it.

Then why not just give half a track.....or VERY low quality?

If this is the real reason they do this.....then there will be no problem with this (i can tell if a track is good...by skipping thru it...or listening to pieces.)
But its the normal listener who is sitting at home searching for the MP3 for himself who will suffer....as the quality is shit.
If he likes it that much to go search for it.....then he will not be satisfied with the low quality.....and go out and buy it.

But to spead an EXACT copy.......no!           Beartrap - SA

I dislike elitism, and the comments from UPE was disgusting IMO.

I thanked them before because after their release of one of the comps of resonantearth i had a nice increase in visitors and sales on the site.
But since that obviously was not their intention my thanks was obviously misplaced.
If I wanted the music to be handeled as something for only some "elite" I would have stuck to releasing it on DAT only.

I like to thank the owners of DC hubs like microdots instead who obviously did the real work of running a service where I could get free promotion.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Now the one thing that struck me in our corrospondance, is the fact that you always always word yourself, or come from the angle that your doing us a really big favor, and NOT visa Versa.....
Im not sure how many ppl/members you have, but i Highly doubt you would get significent traffick( at least id like hope you wouldnt!), to really make a diffrence in the normal amounbt of trafick we recieve at the website in times of new reelase, what with promos, and press releases, tours work,etc....
But hey if you wish to take even more credit, who am i to argue eh
Infact at the end off the month ill make sure somebopdy sends you the actual figiures of hits from your link..........
Also you mentoined a ''lengthy reveiw'' id really love to read this reveiw that you guys featured.....if thats ok by you,may i ?

A bit of understanding & respect would be to much to ask for in this day and age.

From now on this mail-address won't be used anymore and there will be no public ways to reach us.
It was a such a big mistake to react on your mails.
Release good music and the sales will be high and not be affected by MP3

hahaha!

This is hilarious!

I am sorry but I have to agree with UPE, minus the attitude problem. They certainly are not 'releasing' music in the traditional sense of the word. Their English seems to lack precision.

On the other hand, I do not know how much clearer it can be at this point. If you are going into the music business especially releasing trance music, you are accepting the fact that there will be unauthorized distribution of it. It is a fact, whether you like it or not, whether it affects your sales or not, whether you want to spend your time fighting it or not. Bottom line, it is a fact that you and I and everybody else in this world knows. It is naive to assume otherwise.

This is something that every industry has to deal with. How many Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese companies have made fortunes by disassembling electronic components and putting them together much cheaper? How many fake rolexes and gucci bags have been sold and will continue to be sold? My friend, there is no end. Humans are completely rampant and out of control. This is part of what makes us unique and beautifully chaotic.

Peace,
vikuna

hi,

this topic interests me because i'm a producer and i'm currently developing some applications wich i intend to make free for download on the net, wich will enable the creation of very versatile file sharing networks.

I believe any software is a tool and it's creator will never know what those tools will be used for.

I'm not pretending to be naive. A file sharing app will be used (hopefully it will) to share a big amount of files and a percentage of those copyrighted stuff.

The main application is will enable the sharing of files with or without the existence of a central server.

Without a central server there is little or no possibility of shutting down a network (supposedly ISP networks can be setup to filter some type of traffic but i'm not seeing it happen, at least globally).

The applications (and their components) will also be 100% java, so any computer with a suitable VM will be able to use it and exchange files with different platforms (of course most file types have some platform dependence, but that issue is left for the user to sort out, at least initialy).

At the momemt only a limited version exists and a suitable UI is being designed for general use.

I think artists download stuff too, get copied CDs, DVDs or any other type of media like everyone else who's not been stuck in a cave for the last twenty years (it all started with tapes, i think), and i think everyone benefits from this type of technology.

Anyone can DL stuff, listen to it and if they really like buy the CD or go dance to their live.

Some will hate me for this but i remember those first times when someone appears with a CD-R of some new project.

I remember a long time ago when a friend appeared in my house with a CD-R with GMS written with a felt tip pen and explained that GMS meant "Grownling Mad Scientits"

How many CD-Rs took to make GMS as famous as they are now (off course CD-Rs alone aren't responsible for their sucess)?

It's not the first time in history that technology made a type of business obsolete. Think typewriters. Where are those people that made, sold and fixed typewriters now that computers are here? Maybe labels need to find a way to change their business or take advantage of waht's happening now.

Many people pay for DLs, there's this big apple site with loads of tracks and i don't see apple doing bad.

Things are always changing and our sources of revenue can't be static, we have to keep chasing them and what's happening in the music industry is happening in other industries as well.

From some point of reason, typewriter makers should had lobbyed to make computers outlaw, or just word processors.

Seems ridiculous, like saying guttenberg invented something evil 4 centuryes ago.

In the near future i'll be looking for people willing to test it in order to find bugs, improve funcionality and create a growing user base (anyone interested in this project is free to PM or mail me regarding any discussion or intervention in this project).

Something that really concerns is knowing how a file sharing network could be improved and so that this project wont end as "just another p2p network" and to some point even being "another p2p network" is a tough job.

I'm also interested in the sugestions from people who are agaisnt p2p. If they can come up with something good for them that is an improvement to p2p i'll try to implement it.

Thanks for your time and excuse the many spelling mistakes and if i sound like a bad preacher giving a boring sermon, but this is my honest opinion.
