Some of us never really found Goa to be dance music, which is where it differs today. I PERSONALLY hate 'dance' music, and everything that comes with it. I found goa to be more free formed, fractal, paintings, artful, mind expasion tools. Lots of heart, lots of detail, and extremely psychedelic while REALLY paying attention to what those old schoolers were doing with sound back then. Which I will add, took much more effort and talent in the not so hi-tech age. The not so perfect recordings gave the sound texture, and made it feel a bit more organic, rather than crystal clear sound. BTW, proven fact that alittle distortion is desirable on the ears, which is where that my come into play.

I dunno, I respect everyones opinions here. And understand there is good stuff everywhere and will jam to some Full on dark stuff every now and then, but not often.

...But Full-On isn't for everyone, nor is Goa. For anyone who was around 9-10 years ago knew there was something special there. It was a great time in the evolution of sound and psychedelics. Nothing quite touches you MENTALLY like tho records being produced back then. Great stuff...

Cheers.

Mike it's not that I don't agree with the opinion that u have brought out here but I want to extend my answer to other point, which is rather fantastic to my opinion...

Since my day one as Trance fan, I was sure that trance music and nature parties can't be separated. Trance was born to be played in open air ( woods, fields, mountains ) to groups of ppl using good sound systems and psy atmosphere. As u were speaking and saying all u had to say ( and it was a lot ) about what u like and dislike about Trance, u mentioned u don't go to parties and listen to it at home.

It's not that u can't have an opinion of your own, but it seems to me that up till now u missed more than 80% of what trance is all about.

IMO ofcourse           http://perfectlystrange.com

Bullshit, talk for yourself, but please, don't talk in the name of everyone. There are at least 3 mistakes that you made due to this.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Very interesting discussion.

One point, I feel there are too many generalised statements such as; Psychelic Trance is meant to be this, psychedelic trance is meant to be that etc. Ultimately it is just some guys who want to create some good music on the computer for others to enjoy. And trance could mean many different things to many different people, some people enjoy it with one kind of drugs, some people with others, and some with no drugs at all.

Also I think that in any genre of music be it full-on, progressive, drum and bass, balalaika fusion etc, a really good, original track can be created. And there are some fanstastic full-on tracks out there, but unfortimanunantly a lot of really generic stuff as well. I think it is just due to the popularity that full-on currently enjoys.

Full-On craze is bound to end, some other genre/style will become more popular, lots of mediocre tracks will be produced in that genre and people will start complaining about that genre the way they do about full on (remember the minimal bashing of few years ago?)

Some Full-on is very psychedelic and some is not. Some progressive is fantastic and some is not so fantastic.

I listen to mostly chill-out and progressive, but i love artists like Vibe Tribe which i think are very psychedelic. I also enjoy Astrix's first album and his second album, i think there are moments where the albumes are simply good electronic music and othertimes his tracks are very psychedelic.
You cant blame Avi for all the copycats imho.

So my point is that i think full-on when made by the right people can be very psychedelic and enjoyable.

I do believe when the art is commercialized and has to be predefined to appeal to a larger groups of ppl looses its individual power of expression and becomes a standarized manufactured production. Originality gives way to maximum common denominator of massified and marketed sounds.

Full on is as trance today as the Israeli invasion was to goa in 97

what are you saying !!?? hehe..wrong again.. inFACT i encourage and respect only non-fullon DJs ..coz making ppl trip and enjoy music on non-fullon music in todays 'fullon' psyscene its great job !! sadly u only get fullon music these days.

Where psychedelica ruled, cocain and mdma took over.
And that reflects in the music as well.
mdma puts pink glasses on you and you loose your judgment, what is actually good and what isnīt.
Cocain clooses your heart chakra and pushes up your ego.
Full on has imo nothing to do with psychedelic music.
"Maybe what you call psychedelic is the crappy sound production?" MikeA was writing. "Not only" I answer, but I think that overproduced, perfect sounding tracks are absolutely boring after a short while of listening and (like Spindrift said) makes my "ears fall asleep".
"This is dance music after all." Itīs ok, if it works for you, it doesnīt make me dance. I guess it depends if you are describing dance as the sheer movement of the body, or as a journey of mind, body, soul and spirit.
