I read on Party Reviews on Doof Festival about the really bad mixes of the big names (Max-Etnica and more...).
I think that this really serious problem because when u dance u need to hear just music without some "cuts" in the middle !
It is sad to say but there is some big names that really dont know how to do mix , like Raja Ram.....
DJ & Artists like this should learn on to do "beat mix" and than I can enjoy from them sets.....
Thats all I wanted to say....feel free to comment

sputer, i wanna smoke some of what you were smoking when you thought raja ram was mixing well. His mixing is awful, and I remember reeading an interview wth him where he even admitted it..

anyway, i know what you are saying, guy. alful dj'ng techniqie is annying as hell. Ive seen lot of big names who can't mix. However, all the big name progressivepsy DJs can always mix, itsusually the old generation like goagil, rajaram, shivajoerg, etnica maxwho dont know qwhat they are doing. the only old guy who knows his mixing is antaro, hes a great dj.           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch

loic of total eclipse is one of the best mixers i have ever had the joy of hearing and he is total oldschool, i mean to hear stories from him about goa '89 is just... well, amazing!

aje, i agree with you on goagill.... i myself dont see what the fuss is about with him, raja at least puts on a comical show...

regarding mixing... yes they should know, they had plenty of time to learn since the d.a.t has been out of use and still they dont know... i think its cause they are lazy and care nothing about it. not every mix has to be beatmix, ambient mixes create some serious drama, yet they should know how to mix... that is a basic requirement in my opinion.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Another issue is that it's damn boring as a DJ to just put one track on after eachother without mixing it properly.... There's no work in it.. Everybody can do that

A good DJ is one that can combine the technical aspects with a talent to communicate with people on the dancefloor. Everything else is just a waste of time.

I agree that a lot of the oldtimers need to get their acts together. I had to learn it too so I could move on and give people something for their money. It's not always enough to just play one "cool" track after eachother.
But it was just as much a personal wish to satisfy my own ambition to have fun and actually work when I play.

But unfortinently not all "stars" care about mixing skills in the psy/full-on scene (nothing to do with the music - all to do with lazyness and feeling too secure as a oldtime "star" DJ).

It really doesn't take much, so I think even the old-timers should brush up on their technicals. Also its time for party promoters to perhaps stop booking live acts to play a dj set as well - just about any time this happens I'm bored to tears with random track selection and no mixing. Some exceptions apply, naturally - any live act which can actually make a good dj set as well...

Well, if you are a professional DJ, and earn money for it, why not do a good mix? There's no disadvantage.

I like to hear from professional DJs well mixed sets, where they show not only the kind of music they like to play, but also their technics in mixing, like beatmatch, etc...

don´t see things how they appear 2 u, but why they happenned....

That don't mean nuthin' - many people at parties would dance to a guy farting into a microphone and beating on the ground with a metal stick.

But I agree with guy cohen - a basic knowledge of mixing should be a prerequisite for *any* DJ. It is not exactly so difficult to learn - somebody can become proficient beatmatching on a very basic level with just a few months practicing. I think it is just that many of these guys are either a) too lazy, b) too drugfucked or c) to egotistical to think they need to learn any new skill. There is NO excuse for not knowing how to properly mix nowadays.

this forum is for complaining too u know.
and I find oldschooldjs (or any dj) that cant mix a disgrace. i mean after 6,7,8 or 9 years playing parties you'd think that these guys'd get the principal behind beat matching. i'm talking about simple 16 bar beat match, nothing complicated. and I hear too many mixing catastrophuies from these guys

can u mix OTT?

No disrespect, but most Psytrance DJ's don't mix very well. They could all learn something from mixers like Seb Fontaine or DJ Tiësto. I mean, psytrance is my favourite genre in trance, but when it comes to smooth mixing qualities the afromentioned just kick ass! Oh yeah, Ryan Halifax mixes quite smoothly also.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."
