for the people who prefer good track choice over proper beatmixing :
When I spin:
without beatmixing : 17 tracks/2hour
with beatmixing : 25 tracks/2 hour
===> huge difference

if the energy is high and the vibes are good, I don't give a fuck how you do it. have fun at the party, I know many of you complainers like to think yourselves as the connoiseur, but really you are the only one missing out when you are bitching at a party.

Just have fun!!!!

Probably the best way to put it......I noticed that the only time I notice the bad instead of concentrating on the good is when a pessimist points it out to me........They need to stop ruining our vibe Spliffnik.....           assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

well, anyone with "trained" ears will hear much smaller mistakes than your average listener. i actually regretted learning to mix for the first few years, as all my old favorite DJ mixes didn't sound as impressive any more :-( you also become a real critical bastard when going to parties. i find that maybe 1 or 2 sets from an entire party will be technically solid enough for me to just dance and lose myself.

"There are so many ways that beatmixing can be used - it adds a whole new dynamic to mixing and set flow. Why should a DJ not take a few months to learn how to do it?"

exactly. it seems like people are stuck in the mindset that learning to beatmatch and do quick transitions is the end of the learning curve. it goes so much deeper than that. learning to beatmatch like a demon allows you to bring new tracks in and out at will, do long layered mixes, cut tracks with the faders, etc.. none of this will sound good without matching accurately.

besides, modern paytrance is very close to UK hardtrance in structure, and that style is extremely easy to mix. psytrance is only different because it sometimes adds extra bars and sneaky things.

plus, if you can layer mixes well, it sounds sooo good when you mix up to the new bassline, then drop it like a bomb.

Gen.6 is one helluva Dj! She played one of the best, if not the best sets I've ever heard. It was flawless. If you haven't heard her; do something about it           Free your mind and your ass will follow.

Best technical mixer i've heard lateley was Richard Wilkinson from ignition technician. i reckon he played 40-50 tracks per hour, he just took pieces of tracks and used them to make whole new tracks.

he used the final scratch.

Best mixer that i have heard lately will be Umek and Ade Fenton(The Advent) who played 40 tracks per hour. As for trance dj, Dino Psaras mixes really good and plays a veriety of styles, at least when a i heard him 2 years ago. Also Peter Digital is really good

first of all I'm not gonna pass any judgement on who's good or bad ... that is up to the people listening at a party or the djs themselves ... BUT for me a trance experience is longer than one track.

to Spliffnik:
Having been on the scene and also as a dj for quite a while I'm fully aware of the curse of always being aware of that part of the party but let's compare the trance party experience with going for your first parachuting ... when you are told to jump you are unaware of the fact that you are only at 2000 m but when on the ground you've had an amazing experience ... what if they would have taken you to 3000 m before they told you to jump?? ((the little I know of parachuting is that 3000 m is sort of standard height))
My point is that bad mixing could actually deprive people of an experience they didn't know of ...

ciao
