this forum is for complaining too u know.
and I find oldschooldjs (or any dj) that cant mix a disgrace. i mean after 6,7,8 or 9 years playing parties you'd think that these guys'd get the principal behind beat matching. i'm talking about simple 16 bar beat match, nothing complicated. and I hear too many mixing catastrophuies from these guys

can u mix OTT?

G
i think ott mix very well. so do stop complaining.

seeing neuromotor and space cat over the past couple of months made me realize that there is no pt in wasting (imho ofcourse) my time energy dancing braincells on bad mixers, i dont mean beatmatching as gadi said, i mean mixing, ambient is fine! the art of the dj is in the mixing. do it. I get a rush from incredible mixing. do it. its powerful. it is trance dance. turn on and mix right mix well, do your art, but dont be an automaton. do it!!!           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

Judging from the only time i've heard OTT i can definately say he knows to mix. But he was cheating, cause he mixed his music only.
I hope he comes to Israel again to prove it again

if the energy is high and the vibes are good, I don't give a fuck how you do it. have fun at the party, I know many of you complainers like to think yourselves as the connoiseur, but really you are the only one missing out when you are bitching at a party.

Just have fun!!!!

well i like the evening to flow...thats all there is to it..and a good dj should be competent, if not superfluous, enough to achieve that...

Seems to me it is mostly DJs who care about technicality in mixing.

I personally could care less about how perfectly two tracks are synced, as long as it doesn't sound awful (trainwreck). I don't see why people get all riled up if mixing isn't done by beatmatching. Like the ability to make two tempos equal is all it takes to be a good DJ. To me, that is just a technicality and is a matter of practive. What makes a DJ good is the artistry in picking tracks and reading crowds.

If you don't like the way certain artists mix, you simply don't have to pay money to see them!

Reconstructed - people get all riled up bcuz too many times it does sound awful. i personaly dont want to hear half a minute of bloody noize everytime a track changes. nor do i want to hear half a minute of silence in between tracks - like in bad rug mixes. I want the trax to flow from one to the other and i dont know a better way to do this then by beatmatching. once evry 6-10 trax to do a rug mix is nice, builds drama and restarts the dancefloor but on a regular basis it is unproffessional and in my experience - works less then beat match

G

ps - me too wanna hear OTT next time he arrives. i missed his set in the Shpongle gig (he was one of the reasons i decided to go to that commercial party in the first place). love his music

Even if they don't know the technical aspect of it, the dancefloor notices. Fortunately we are all agreed that trainwrecks suck. But if there is the constant up and down every 7 minutes between tracks, it is difficult to really have a solid build in energy. I've never seen a crowd "higher" (not talking about drugs) than I have during a well-beatmatched set. A DJ can carry the energy from track to track without an abrupt break.

If anything, view it this way - beatmixing is a another tool which DJs have to manipulate the crowd. Without it, they are missing out on a really important technique to flow and build energy within a set, and are really limiting themselves. There are so many ways that beatmixing can be used - it adds a whole new dynamic to mixing and set flow. Why should a DJ not take a few months to learn how to do it?

Agree. Good points there, but a dj should know how to beatmatch anyway.

I think most djs know how to beatmatch (some know it but doesn't use it much), but not every dj knows how to make a nice VOYAGE, witch is the real difference between a good and bad dj....

A good voyage is very important to me when I dance for many hours = my voyage into trance!           CHILL TRIBE

First , about the old guys from the scene i guess its because few years ago when the psytrance was alil diffrent from today , beatmatch mixing wasnt that important because the tracks wasnt built for that there was usually long into in the beginning of the track and in the end of the track , at the last few years the psy trance became more professional from all aspectes , and that includs beat mixing aswell , and i want to mention few names that are doing it perfectly , space cat, astrix, skazi, eyal yanko, dino psaras, gms and many more, the bad ones ive heard are raja ram for sure , not even basic beat mixxing here and sometimes infected and talamasca ,if u listen the the psy trance today you will see that the tracks are more "built" for beat mixing with long beat fade that the music will be more mixable, i myself like to hear a flowing set with no "silent" moments but the track itself , beat mixxing has take the psy trance to another level that was belongs to house/club trance music and u can see psy trance is coming to the big clubs now , for example ive saw 3 big partys in house music tolarated clubs like Haoman 17 and TLV putting big trance DJ as the big main thing of the event , like Raja ram,Skazi,Simon all from the last times + the usuall lines in the zamir and some other places , the crowd want to hear quality music with good mixxing skills i guess u got my point and here's a little chart of the best psy trance djs :
1) Skazi
2) GMS
3) Space Cat
4) Astrix
5) Eyal Yankovic
