but as far as playing a set -- the difference is HUGE! i've been to a million parties when the DJ just wasn't flowing with his crowd (i don't think i have to mention what that relates to...) and he sucked while playing his set. on the other side, artists who take drugs, just like to people who comes to those parties. let's not be innocent.

I don't see what is the difference between the making music and playing music. Both are forms of art.

I don't accept your preposition that in order to communicate with others (including others that take drugs) you need to take drugs.

A DJ communicates with a crowd, and besides technical skills and having what to communicate with (good music, good system etc.) he needs basically to be open to others and to the world around him.

Some ppl need drugs to open themselves, that true, but drugs a lot of times do exactly the opposite.

There are far better ways to get yourself opened to others.           ---------------------------------------------

Ok heres my 2 cent!

I for one likes to get stoned on cannabis sometimes (and sometimes some valium pills aswell) while making music, it gives me a nice flow...it gives me a creative boost, my mind is focused on the music, i wont be botherd by anything else...

sure there are downsides, you might jump to conclusions about a sound and find out afterwards it does´nt fit the mix at all!
(but that can happen sober too)

but often many sounds is good and after a good nights sleep you can get back to mixing sober and hear exactly what needs to be done!

so my opinion is: create while being stoned and mix while being sober....to much of the good stuff and it wont be a creative booster..

i can not see my self smoking all the time when i compose! it wouldnt work for me!

And for the comparison with athletic doping..
interesting, but not valid, they dope coz they wanna win, we dope to alter our minds not bodys and we are in no rush to any finish line at all, coz in music there are no finish lines!

so for the record, the drug is not the maker of the music its only a spice for the creator... just like curry: in some dish it might taste good in some other it wont.. hehe

and it´s a known fact that psychedelic drugs gives you lots of ideas, the real competion is to know which idea you should labour!

One thing is for sure: You can listen better music with drugs, the music come in to your soul with drugs.
Lsd, for exemple.
Thats why some artists use drugs to produce their music.
They get a better work.

But...
Stay clean people!!!
Thats the better way!
The drugs give me bad experiences.
Belive it.
Rock with power!!!!....

But with out drugs!

True, but again - in my opinion only as a mind expander. Not to use it while you're making the music.

Let's just say life itself is our biggest drug, very few want to let go of this addiction.

Well, i guess it depends of who is taking the drug! Some people just cant deal with drugs!Like Elysium Project, it happens to him the oposite that happens with me! When i get stone or use some drug i guess i feel better playing, like, i dont want stop playing....Like if im home, if i am not stoned i just play at home sometimes, but everytime i get stoned i play!Like.... i smoke to play!I cant tell anything about creating music cause i hv never tried, but about playing my opinion is that if the artist likes drugs, i guess the fact that he used any stuff will not shit his performance, unless he takes something to strong! Like lsd, u can take just some acid that makes u trip, then u will be fine! But u can take some acid or even pure lds that makes u allucinate....then u wont be able to play ehehehe.....When u play with drugs in your brain i guess your feeling get higher....i guess if u got the technics and u know how to deal with drugs u will be fine using some stuff.....but if your body cant, man.....just do like Elysium Project, its definetely better for u!
Respect!

I'm sceptic about this. And I know that the persons that disagree with me (most of you I guess?) have something to say about this.
So please tell me. Can one make psychedelic music without a psychedelic substance experience?

PS. I know that this topic will properly get deleted sooner or later because of the so called "drug" relevance. But common, isn't psychedelics a BIG part of psy-trance, or am I in the wrong genre? I guess I'm in the wrong forum =) But I would love to get some real answer to my question. because for me, it seems un-logical. (There is always exceptions) ::

Sorry, but this is a very stupid discussion.
There is no proof an artist under the influence of drugs makes better music than the one who isn't.

But as the question above states (Thanks for the move Kako). How can a person with NO psychedelic substance experience make psychedelic music? And fuck drugs man. In the psychedelic trance scene, the drug in question should ONLY be psychedelic (THC being baby psychedelic effect). Or else we might as well call us chemical-trance and then we should praise Chemical Crew like the rest of the "I'm afraid of psychedelics, so I'll hate it instead of understanding it” people out there.

hehehe, you remembered my whole name. Umm, well. It's a question that has always been with me since my first bad track experience. For me it seems very strange that a person with no psychedelic understanding can claim to make a killargh psychedelic track "just" because he turns some nobs and puts in some echo (These days a lot of people doesn’t even do that, they just produce "normal" but more modern, lets call it Isra-Euro-Trance music and sticks a Psytrance sticker on it, because psytrance is "cool", if you get my drift) Psykovsky, oh yes. He knows, he knows perfectly well how to make true psychedelic, and trippy music with walls, roof and floor. Too many "psytrance" producers just makes the wall, and forget, or don’t know how to make the rest of the building. I strongly feel that one has to have some kind of understanding of how a psychedelic substance effects you. Because, as trippers know. The music change when your on a trip.

::See I think drugs have done some good things for us. If you don't think drugs have done good things for us then do me a favour. Go home tonight and take all of your records, tapes and all your CD's and burn them. Because, you know all those musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years? Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs, man. - BILL HICKS :respect:
