You can also vote for a few psytrance DJ's in the scene, such as myself, under DJ CLOWN ..

We should all vote for eachother to make the scene grow a bit and take down those Tiesto's and those van dykes.. it could be US up at the top.. all it takes is participation..

LETS GO!!           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

We should stop promoting psytrance in this kind of ways. This music is already too popular all over the world. It becomes every year more and more commercial/crappy !

S.T.O.P IT for god sake!

We dont need a bigger scene, we need a better scene.

Quit thinking like the stereotype american, bigger is not better...

Quality and Quantity go hand in hand.

Find a page where we can vote for more quality, and we will be all over it ;-)

making psytrance bigger for them is to bring more customers, improve chanches to sell more releases and bring some fresh meat to "parties". Scene is dead long time alone           Sea>Israel>Ben-Gurion>Tel-Aviv>Ramat-Goa>Marom Neve

It's not about making it bigger, it's about preventing it from becoming stale. If you go to the same parties and see the same people every weekend for 3-5 years, you start getting a little tired of being locked into the same routine. Otherwise we'd end up being old and jaded and not wanting to go to any parties because it's the same old same old. I wouldn't want the parties that we have to end up like one of those candy rave massives either, but at the same time it's like going to a bar and running into all the people you went to high school with and have hung out with for years, nothing has changed and you've run out of things to talk about.

To me it is very important to keep the scene fresh, with Quality and enough quantity to keep us from getting bored.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

@Mubali

I do not in any way disagree with you - But in order to attain what you are talking about, the scene doesnt need to get any bigger - just better.

Getting psytrance to be as popular as other genres is IMO not the way to do that - Its not the size of it, its the taste.

Just focus on creating great parties, great music and the right people will come without it having to be all over the news or mainstream promotion websites.
People can be introduced into the scene via other people - Also, that way they start off with an understand of our culture.
They need to be initiated -)

@Andrey

Life is more than parties, and psytrance is more than parties - I see no reason why you should feel you have to go to them to be a part of it (and I know you didnt say that, but you are here arent you?)

Best Wishes

I agree with Talamasca that sometihng has to be done. A lot of people I know never even heard of psytrance (and some loved it after I let them hear some tracks).
Also when I pass by MTV or another music channel its not Tiesto, trance or any other kind of "house" music I see, but even worse: rap, hiphop and r&b. So some psytrance promotion cant hurt. Growing bigger can have the potential of becoming better also. They arent each others opposites.

Ive been in the hardcore scene from quite some years (but now happily addicted to psytrance ) and in the Netherlands that became "commercial" for some years with dj's such as Paul Elstak. That scene nowadays is "underground" again. So "going commercial" doenst mean it has to stay there forever. Its up the people themselves that are in the scene.

Good Luck.

I agree with Talamasca the scene is dying slowly, and we need to use all the medias to promote labels and parties equally in front of all the musical styles. Maybe this way will help people realise the existence of trance, we have to try all the solutions.          Out Now >> V.A "1001 Flights" (Air Snare recs)

I do agree that people should be introduced to this through other people, that will keep a lot of the munters out that will approach this with the incorrect intentions... It just sometimes takes something slightly commercial to make people seek the non-commercial. I got introduced to electronic dance music and it's culture through melodic progressive trance, and it took me wanting something a little more (for lack of a better word) adult to seek out the underground music scenes and as such helped me discover psychedelic trance...

There is a possibility that the scene could grow exponetially larger but lose the ideals that it was founded upon. I feel that if we do end up catering to the lowest common denominator we'll forget why we started becoming interested in this music and the culture behind it... If we can educate people about the culture while we are gaining more people, then it could possibly be a win-win situation.

From a completely businessminded standpoint, (and this is NOT my personal view, just an objective one from a different perspective) the scene needs growth to support the rapid amount of people that are starting their own labels. If psychedelic trance expects to attract the type of following that many of the more popular genres of dance music has, it's going to need a major consumer base that is not currently available from the current amount of listeners... They will need thousands people to build a following like PVD or Oakey that'll pay a grip of cash to see some guy play for a couple of hours and spend a bunch of cash on concessions... This is also where most forms of Pop have an advantage: Market Saturation. You can't go anywhere without hearing some hip hop or boy band or some crap like that permeating your senses. It's become linked to fashion, politics, what you eat, etc... To the point where you can't just not completely deal with it....

One of the biggest reasons I became interested in electronic music was the fact that it wasn't forced upon me. I had to seek it out and learn about the culture while I was seeking the music... It wasn't intrusive and indeed was slightly elitist to an extent because it wasn't something that everybody and their mother fully knew about. It's not that I felt I was special or different because I knew about this music, I just felt it had been unsullied by those who didn't give a shit about the music and wanted to gain something by it's exploitation (which is how I feel about just about all Pop music.)

I can see this going one of 3 ways: 1) They start showing Psy on MTV and we suddenly have thousands of teenie boppers running around in I heart Astrix T-Shirts. In which case most of the oldtimers that have been in it since the get go completely excommunicate themselves from most of the general sound and throw their own small parties.. (sound familiar?)
2) Nobody takes the music seriously and disregards it as druggie music, they turn on some rap artist that's talking about takin some e and gettin it on with some chick...

3) The music gets popular for about 2 years and fades off to obscurity when MTV discovers their next fad.

I would love to see the scene grow to an extent too, especially in the country that I live in, but at the expense of the trance culture, seeing that the culture is just as mentally attractive as the music is...

Ok... Off my soapbox...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Listen , my goal is really not to create a topic where people will argue about what is good or not....there are so many topics that finish in “wars”, that i wanted to speak about something who could reunify all psytrance listeners (whatever the style they like....) instead of dividing them....
But let me explain something....as it was written many times in this forum, the mp3 download and the cd sells are going really down ....I decided to create Mind control last year with mael because i believe in this music....
Now, as a Label, i have to think diferently...let me give some numbers....In 1998 , the psytrance cd who sell the most in France sold more than 30000 pieces....In 2002, it was 700 pieces....and i speak here only about France....but it is a bit similar everywhere......

I am from the generation who saw all his favorite labels (dragonfly, blue room, matsuri, flying rhino and many others...) who had to close because of those things.....and when we created Mind control , we knew that it would be a hard challenge by our times.....tell me how many people really bought Zodiac for exemple, and how many have copies of it.....nobody knows exactly, but everybody knows what is going on.....and this was just an exemple...If there was no cd copies, maybe Infected would really be gold dics all over the world !!!

So, this was to explain another point of view....the label point of view.....We know that we will not be abble to change this situation, so i believe that instead of trying to find how to stop the cd copies, we could try to attract more people to listen our music...which is anyway my goal since i am a dj, that the maximum of people will listen , or minimum “know” this music...

again , i know this is a very “commercial” idea, to go vote for your favorite artist....as I said upper, i am a little bit ashamed to be the one who opened this story , but if i have to use my name to promote the kind of music I believe in, then i do it....and i still believe that more the psytrance artists will be well ranked, more our music will be listened, promoted, and respected.........

And to finish...(yes, it was a looooong one, the longest i’ve ever wrote !) I will just say that you are right andrey...the goal is to bring more people in parties ( and not some “meat” !!!), and to sell more cd’s ...but i don’t understand why it would be bad ???
Also, if one day you can find your favorite artist new album in the shop just next to your house, or if you could listen your favorite dj’s every week in radio shows, or if you could see all the artists you like on TV, why would it be bad ?????? And what means exactly “commercial” ??? If the music doesn’t change its spirit, but if it is more promoted, is it more “commercial” ???

Well.....i promess the next will be shorter.......i guess I drunk too much coffee today...
