So..

-Why do you like/dislike Growling Mad Scientists?

-Why do you think their music is good/bad?

-What makes it good/bad?

make your point, don't just say.. tell us why..

Ok, let me try. First of all, they are one of my favourite projects nowadays.
Why?
One of their best qualities is how they master their sound. And you can check it out at any party. The equalization is just perfect to me.
I could start talking about their music and how great this or that song is. But all i'll say is that GMS exists since 1996 and are still one of the best trance projects in the world weither you like it or not.           You realise everything you learn is in fact just learned, not necessarily true...

I like them, maybe because i'm new (1 year) to the trance scene. But i'm getting a bit tired of them... They release too much. Way too much.

I think they have real talent, and some of their music is really beautiful and intelligent. Apart from that there are lots of tracks which at home may sound a little rough, but on the dancefloor work great.

Their best tracks for me:

Bubble and Squeak ('00) - the best one for me
Arabian Nights on Mescaline ('00) - amazing
Tentacles of a Jelly Fish ('98) - well built
Growly Family ('98) - gotta love addams family samples
Star Wars ('98?) - i love this track

The tracks above, i think, are intelligent or at least innovative. They have the ability to make me dance and fly. Growly Family and Star Wars make me smile too

About their side projects, 1200 mics and zorba are good (zorba maybe a little cheesy and 1200 mics a bit rinse/repeat).

well, imho they are very good.
and getting better with time.
they kinda invented the whole full on genere...
they were the pioneers.
i will always remember the track that got me hooked on full on back in the days that i didnt know what full on is.
it was "Cheeseballs" and i still think its one of the best tracks ever.
and imho they ARE getting better with time.
and the last album "No Rules" is the best work they done till now.
so...
will look after new stuff from the boys...
with pleasure.
I LOVE GMS.

yes i like GMS since the first album but i don't like all the tracks they do.My favourits are the remix of psychopod "Friagram"on TIP the rmx of"Reload" on Hadshot and the rmx of "Africa" on Solstice.
But "On a mission from God";"Flem" are really nice tracks .The new album on spirit zone is nice too!!
The new alien project have a track in co-production with them.

I like GMS especially when i listen to them live.

Their music for me produces high energy , and positive feelings . When there is a need to release energy a nice gms set is what i need. For sure for me their music is not so deep or psychedelic like other bands (example kox box, hux flux,) and not so hard like (X-dream/delta(my favorites ), spirallianz , planet ben, tetraktys), but there are times where i need to jump , and dance like crazy! One time was in samothraki were their live set made more than 5000 people jump !! Not even Simon managed to do that...and i know that not my favorite band X-dream will do it for this year.. (ok i know different music)
So i suppose there is some kind of magic between GMS and the people in their live set.

Now the bad thing , is that i heard lots of people saying that they not play in parties when they have to . Although in greece i know that they didnt miss any flight or something and all the times when they were booked both of them played (Riktam + Bansi).

I like GMS music. IMO they are one of the best acts out there.
Just look at the Top 10, almost every Top has at least a track or remix from GMS. This donŽt mean nothing, except that they are respected and make some real dancefloor killers.
They make real stompers remixes...
They have a style of their own, that works great on dancefloors. And YES, they are getting better and better with time.
The problem is that they have lots of bad tracks (IMO). If they only have released the good ones they would be unbeatable.

Best tracks: Spliffpolitics, Juice, The Rescuers, Bubble and Squeak, Shrek, Flying, Crack The Wip, On a Mission From God, Zombi Stomp, etc...

Best Remixes: Midnight Sun, Dance of the Witches, Teleport, Moment of Truth, Gamma Goblins...

Some people tell GMS always use the same formula and are repetitive: well , I canŽt see any repetition on these tracks above, except the jumps and smiles when they are played on the dancefloors all around the world.
Respect!

well iŽll say as the first one in this thread why i dont like gms music ...

ok first full respect to every artist overall , and especially to the skills and trickyness that gms has got ...

some years ago i liked them too traxx like from the 3D tip compi. do androids dream of electric sheep or something like that and Jaws EP , and later their stuff like Star Wars and Arabian Knights bla bla , but well i changed my way of living and so my mood on music a little bit too ( no drug storys now:)) and their music is for my senses wicked , crazy , not much gravity enough , on the other side i understand ppl wich like these kind of things in music and i respect it , but not everybody has to like it ...

i like a feeling of deepness and seriousity in sound wich i dont find for me in this kind of music ... and im not wicked and crazy like a joker on acid so i just feel totally strange and at the wrong place with this kind of trance ...

dont wanted to talk about any roumors or their way of selling music , but i have my opinion on that too

boooooom shiva hahahhahhaha

OK, first of all, let's clear a few things up. GMS did not invent full-on. Tim Schuldt was pounding harder than ever when they were just in their early stages.

OK, now to the issue at hand. I dislike GMS. I used to love them. 1.3 Crumbs was awesome, their whole "Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep" album was totally cool. When On a Mission from God came out, it was one of my favorite tracks, and when I bought the album (GMS & Amigos), I couldn't help but feel something was wrong. The one thing I liked about trance music was that each track touches me in a different way. That just stopped happening with GMS. They always use the same energies, the same ideas, the same everything. It may be very effective on the dancefloor. Sure, it's energetic.

But my opinion is simple. There is no difference between listening to trance music at home and at a party. Danceability should be an extension of the music, not built in to it. Music should keep you on your toes with suspense, not just make you jump around. And that's a factor that GMS just ignore (as well as most of the 'mainstream' full-on artists, like Astrix, Atomic Pulse, Safi Connection, Alien Project and the rest). Psychedelic trance should first of all be psychedelic. If the music doesn't let you slip into a trance, it's not trance.

GMS nearly totally ignore what I find special in psytrance.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

i love their music
they have a killer production and their dynamic in the kick-bass-high hats is just amazing !!!!!!!
BUT
they release many craps !!!!!
i'm sorry full_on but i think that :spliffpolitics , juice & the rescuers are huge shit !!!!!!!!! sorry, but i don't call that music .this is just noise on bpm ..........

the work i like from them is : on a mission from god (and almost all the growly family album for the fucking positive vibe that comes from it) , no rules(the track, amazing!!!) , their new project growlmonizer , some old zorba(like the ones on the movers & groovers 2) , i also like psychedelic circus (what a killer bassline !!!!!!!!) , i also like the 1200 mics exstasy (what another fucking bassline !!!!!!), i also love the rmx of younger brother for the fuckiiiiiiiiiiiing killer bassline !!!!!!

but they release many many shits....... like many tracks on the 1200 mics album ..........
some rmx that are just useless with no interest (the i'm real rmx............ what's the point ????)

well, this is just my opinion and many of u will disagree of course

I like GMS music, because it's one of the few artists today that use a lot of "acid" sounds (or whatever they are called), they are in particuarly every GMS track. You know those "eaaoooww"-sounds

I like those sounds a lot, especially when dancing. Those sounds is with which you move your hands and so...           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

I like GMS, i am not shamed to say it.
The same way some of you love to watch dumbass American action movies and to eat Popcorn, in the same way i love GMS.
It's dumb, funny, easy to digest, and makes you very good mood in the morning, and actually every time of the day.
And i don't give a shit about commercializing and about how they sold their soul to the devil bla bla bla.
They are the Spielberg of the trance scene. Though i hate Spielbergs movies... But that's another topic.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

GMS is made for the trance party dancefloor.

I don't listen to GMS while I am just sitting around the house chilling out, or driving in the car...

But I play their music at parties. It's full power party trax... like nothing else.

While their production is about 50/50... some crap... some brilliance... their remix work is amazing.

Can't wait for the upcoming remix album on SPUN.
