There are a few..

Anyways maybe it's just because boys do it way better

Or perhaps it has something to with computers, which are still seen as sort of manly things.           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

I used to work in a big music equipment store in London for a year, and I was always amazed that the only girls that bought equipment was singers buying a mic.
Otherwise the only girls visiting the shop was girlfriends of producers.

It's very common with girls who is interested in singing or playing an instrument, but it's not only in trance it's extremly rare with female producers.

The main difference I notice when speaking to girls about it is that many seem to have difficulties listening to individual sounds in a mix. They seem to tend to listen to the track as a whole instead. That is of course fine if you part of a group playing an instument or singing.
When it comes to producion the ability to focus on individual elements in a mix is very vital, and guy's seem to many times have easier to do that.

Thats the only reason I can think of....music don't really seem like a macho thing, like cars or motorcykles for example...but still it seems like more girls I know at least take interest in those kind of things rather than production.

Maybe cooperating between male and female would sometimes be necessary to bring out the females ideas without letting them get bogged down with production.

Sorry for not being totally PC...but i do think we have quite different minds many times.

1. Well, i dont know the basic facts about it, and i'm at work so i cant get into the subject now. But a male and a females brain are infact different.

2. Like "Analog Pussy" you mean? Or is she just a tag-along?

Its true, the producers of our gender are really rare, we are out there. I think its cause males get more involved with machines and programmes and complicated things. Woman in the psy scene will do something else like make clothes, dreamcatchers, boots and the sort.

I myself never mind sitting on a PC for HOURS and listening to trance everyday of my life. Maybe if my Cubase lessons pay off, I can actually produce something I love trying to pick out the sounds of tracks and thinking how that sound was made. Makes it more fun! Then you watch ppl and see sounds make ppl move in different ways, which is even more fun!

Its all a test to see how someone can make sounds to make the ppl MOVE!!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears

I don't think that it is because of boys being more into machines and computers than girls really, or if, than that has an underlying reason as well, which I guess is the same than why there is so few female producers.

Like mentioned already the male and female brain are in fact quite different. Females have much more connections between the two sides of the brain than men, which results in different ways of thinking.
Male are much better in focussing on one line of thought and follow that, without being distracted easily.
Women are better in looking at a task/problem from many different angles and include various lines of thought.
Both has it advantages and disadvantages.
To produce music, especially on the computer, the focussing aspect is very important, to get your track together and women usually are less interested and also less good at it.
I think cooperation is a good solution to integrate the advantages of the different approaches of male and female brains.
There are many complaints about the sounds being very much the same in different tracks and sticking to the same formulas of producing.
Females could bring inspiring new ideas, because they are more open and able to incorporate different styles of music.

Let's get together

Come on ,you really believe that? That is a "manly" thinking. Girls can play and produce just as good and maybe better than man,but I think that the only problem is the lack of self confidence, and it comes as a result of the unconfidence of the people when they see a girl on the stage. They will throw away the whole good set for one mistake. I sometimes play music in one trance caffe and from my experience, people can be very judgemental. You can be so very good, but still, compared to a man,you are still second best. And that is why girls arent so present at the stage(my humble oppinion)
Oh,and yeah,I like the idea also,let's get together:P

i guess pointy is right. it must be the hormones as well. musicality is more a women thing while technical is more men thing. thats why a male musician has a larger female spot than others, and of course higher amount of female hormones.          Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

It's not only the psy scene where there's lack of females composers. Or can you name many known ones, I sure can't. What's the explanation? I don't know, but I would say there's a big probability that it is indeed the difference between the male and female brain. It's proven that when it comes to logic and math and creativity (in working out something new) male brain tends to be superior to female, no? And in the end music is all about creating..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

I think a lot of it has to do with how males and females approach creativity.

In many societies, females are constantly given the chance to be creative and are naturally creative day to day. The also have the power of the ultimate creation, creating a life inside themselves. Lets face it guys, we might provide half the genes but it is women who carry the children and give birth to them. If you watch women, they tend to display their creativity in many ways at once, and in more varied and continual fashions.

Males' creativity is often stifled, however. That is to say, males are expected by their societies to be playing sports and drinking beer and doing other "manly" things. In some males, I think this creativity just builds and builds until they feel the absolute need to express it with music.

At least, that is how it is for me. Making music is like therapy, I need to do it stay sane... lettin all the creativity out that just builds up during the day of mundane things I frankly don't really care about.

There are, of course, tons of female musicians but it is undeniable the ratio is heavily tilted towards humans with the Y chromosome when it comes to solo producing, at least in psytrance. Just some thoughts.

Just one humble opinion about my personal experience, I could give various reasons but ask yourself this question: where do people always get their soooo expensive equipment from? well, I know quite a few male producers and most of them got all this money together being invloved in dodgy business... women usually don't let themselves into this... I have had the dream for many years to produce music but for this quality equipment is necessary... and this costs... so once every while, if lucky, somebody is willing to share their studio, but really to be professional this doesn't work.... so upto the day comes that God performes a miracle the dream continues... I suppose for many girls this really is the issue... got it?
