probably because they have more common sense than us men...Producing psy-trance is a childish hobby, and most women are more practical than sitting next to the computer hours after hours making silly noises and feeling importantly artistic.

There are, however, some positive exceptions (to both male and female trance artists), and most of the ladies who produce this music are very talented and groovy folk.           auspexx@compact-records.com

I think you are mixings things up here a bit.

Females have more connections between left and right side of the brain, than men.
Male and female brains are working differently --> different ways of thinking and problem solving.

Math and logic is connected to the right (male) side of the brain.
Creativity is connected to the left (female) side of the brain.
Men are usually "superior" in the math/logic compartment.
Females are usually "superior" in the creative/emotional compartment.
Both can train and develop skills, which are usually more connected to the opposite gender.
Like Anak mentioned the "female spot" of male musicians is bigger than the one of other males.

You can't generally say who (male or female) is better in solving problems/working out something new, because it depends on what problem you want to solve, what kind of task you are working on.
If it is about one line of thought, that needs to be followed, to come to a solution, than the male brain is more suitable.
If it is a problem where you have to consider many different influences and factors, than the famale brain is more suitable.

And just because I am female .... I think in the world we are living in today, it is much more important to be able to look at a task/problem from many different angles and think about different aspects in the same time, because everything is interlinked and not following one straight line.
So, hurray to the female brains. Take some lessons guys           "*´¨)

You're referring to the differences in the Corpus Callosum, no? Guess what, it's a myth! http://www.indiana.edu/~pietsch/cc-sex.html look for yourself. That's what the recent MRI studies have shown. More than that the male brain is in average 11% to 12% bigger that the female brain.

some quotes from different research teams:

"It has been claimed that the human corpus callosum shows sex differences, and in particular that the splenium (the posterior portion) is larger in women than in men. Data collected before 1910 from cadavers indicate that, on average, males have larger brains than females and that the average size of their corpus callosum is larger. A meta-analysis of 49 studies published since 1980 reveals no significant sex difference in the size or shape of the splenium of the corpus callosum, whether or not an appropriate adjustment is made for brain size using analysis of covariance or linear regression. It is argued that a simple ratio of corpus callosum size to whole brain size is not an appropriate way to analyse the data and can create a false impression of a sex difference in the corpus callosum. The recent studies, most of which used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), confirm the earlier findings of larger average brain size and overall corpus callosum size for males. The widespread belief that women have a larger splenium than men and consequently think differently is untenable. Causes of and means to avoid such a false impression in future research are discussed."

"In conclusion, nosexual dimorphism of the human corpus callosum favoring females was found in this study, and it appears that inadequate sampling, differing feature orientation, and inappropriate size correction procedures may have been factors responsible for conflicting results in previous studies."

i agree.
nonetheless, matriarchy cannot be the solution. matriarchal societies are, as i know, as aggressive and violent as patriarchal ones...
i believe that the solution lies, as you said, in COOPERATION.
it´s allways a matter of balance

imo this is one of the main challenges in life - to get along with the other gender and with difference in general.

societies which try to avoid the pluralism in this world are on the wrong path because they are closing themselves and do not learn anymore but live on fixed ideas rather (fundamentalist religions/ mentalities, dogma, ideologies...)

unbalanced situations allways bring pain and problems.
for example take a look at the male-dominated arab world - this is horrible, all those anxious eyes of men who only hang around with other men and are completely separated from the woman´s world - they get very unbalanced.
same for female-domination (amazons etc.)

don´t want to hurt anyone here, sorry if i did, but it´s my honest opinion.
just think about it before getting aggressive and shouting....

@traveller: thanks for the link. Maybe you should have kept on reading a bit further than just the first few lines. Here is a quote from the same site

"Utilizing several criteria, there were significant sex differences in shape: subjective evaluation indicated that the posterior region of the corpus callosum, the splenium, was more bulbous shaped in females as a group and in women, and more tubular-shaped in males as a group and in men; mathematical evaluation confirmed this observation in that the maximum width of the splenium was significantly greater in women than in men, and that the percentage by which the average width of the splenium was greater than that of the adjacent corpus callosum was significantly greater in females than in males........These anatomical sex differences could, in part, underlie gender-related differences in behavior and neuropsychological function."           "*´¨)

@deejayridoo: I was just teasing a bit

Totally agree with you there has to be a balance of male/female, yin/yang, to achieve harmony

Yes that was there aswell but you know why I didn't quote it? Because that study happens to be almost 14 years old. I quoted the more recent ones. Which I requote now..

I am actually doing something else right now, that's why I don't bother to look for more articles of research that has found anotomical differences, which I think there are, as in science you will always find research, that prooves the opposite.

Anyway I refered earlier to what I learned in my Psychology studies (which was already a few years ago, admit) and was talking about how the brain works, rather than it's size and shapes.

From life experience I can say, that it is common, that a man buisy doing something doesn't react to you when you adress him and that he will say he didn't hear you. I rarely experience that phenomenon with women, which imo shows, that men are very good in concentrating and women in observing different inputs in the same time (which is very necessary when you are a mother). Men usually don't like doing many things at the same time, where women do that a lot.

In one of your quotes it says "favoring females", well that is imo a stupid thing to do and I wouldn't use such an expression. As I wrote earlier, I think both ways of thinking have advantages and disadvantages. I wasn't favoring anybody here. Just made a little joke, which I stated as such afterwards.

It's all about the balance, that's why I don't see the reason for a "battle of the genders", but rather work towards cooperation.

Btw the size of the brain doesn't equal intelligence. You at least have to consider bodyweight and I guess the male bodyweight is probably exactly this 11-12% higher, that their brain is supposed to be bigger.

peace
