When I first got my Virus I was hearing it everywhere
Although I must have been at least 50 % right, you´re mind still plays tricks on you.
In your case though I can´t but assume it must be a great sound synthesizer

what i like is the analog quality , the source sound is more rich , more textured , it s quality you find in most analog synth probably, like in your fatty but in the XS the vco is not as phat, there is 2 and a sub and you can use them for fm . it s capable of cross fm too, you can fm one oscillator that fm the other one at same time but haven t find much use for this yet, might be good for fx and fm leads..
its monophonic, no unisson,no stereo sound..no presets, simple midi, thought you can automate modwheel in daw it can be routed to control some settings in the synth, like filter , some modulations with lfo via mod wheel ect..
but out of the synth it s back in 95 it need work to make it sound for today but the source is of high quality imo so it worht it , the vcos is clean and pure.

It makes a world of a difference if you record patches twice and pan them for stereo. Try that with the XS, automate your filter tweaks (for patches that you only tweak that), record again, pan hard/right. And you have a massive analog 4 (2x2 VCOs) VCO, wide as fuck synth line.

I do that with the Phatty and it sounds twice as nice

have to try this , but i m not sure it will work great for slow filter modulation , like long sweep it might sound steped as i think the modwheel have just 128 steps in automation and it s the only thing i can automate with the Xs. i could be wrong on this no idea and it may be not noticeable anyway

Ah shit yes. I remember having to use the Slew Limiter module on the Doepfer to smooth out the stepped values of the MIDI protocol. The Phatty has a 14bit mode that has a massive resolution and solves this problem.

Having said that, I would not mind hearing that MIDI stepping in a track, as geeky as that might sound.

btw find this, everyhting is the xs including the drums except the xoxbox acid, the guy made it just when he got the xs so maybe dont really use the potential of the synth but there is some nice sound, you can hear it s back in 95 out of the synth like i was saying ..but i really like that with some work it s great for today sound.. trance techno..

some of synths pacth sound like some used back then by transwave funny.. how to make these sounds? if you see the one i means , like the first lead

Proper old school sounding, but not just the synth character, but the raw programming of patches, notes and sequences.

guys for the sounds i was looking for in the Xs demo, after a bit of thinking and listening i find the way back it s rather simple sounds.. thought the one i want i haven t nailed it yet and it sound fabulous imo but gonna experiment... so basically its sync oscs and modulation of the pitch with a lfo on random and starting from this it open the doors for all these freaky lead sounds or other fx

+1 on the 303.
Although I would spend a 1/4 of the asking price on a x0xb0x.
With the money saved, you can buy the rest of the stuff on the image, below (not including the monitors off course).

the new elektron analog 4, 4 voices, sequencer, 2 filter per voice           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."
