YEah.....but then again...the crowd is only really listeningto the tunes he is playing.

IF his set is tight...its does make him a good DJ...but not the best...or better than other DJ's.

IF he tries successfully to pull new tricks off...and does not just wait till the track ends...that shows that he has skills.

I could not beatmix at all....and just fade intro's and outtro's .....and still have the crowd begging for more....just by playing a really good playlist.

But i think i rather would like to earn the respect of other DJ's as they can REALLY appreciate the skills.
Respect from the crowd is earned easier IMHO.

Dude, you're wrong...Although I can Beat mix, I find sometimes that the journey is better represented without...It all depends on the situation...No matter what, you will always have critics, so don't let the respect of other DJ's drive you...That will and drive should come from your own heart....With that, truth will be told...Otherwise, you will be telling the story of another DJ, but not your own....Don't worry. If the crowd likes it, than f... everyone else. You are here and are doing your thing to spread positive vibes, no? Negative vibes come from those who need to criticize to excuse their own short comings. If the crowd wants more, give it to them......
assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

well said Uncle Bob - DJs playing for other DJs is the problem with most trance parties IMHO. It seems to me that people have a tendency to play more boring music because it's easier to mix, so they can do their tricks & impress the other DJs.

I think a good DJ presents an artist's work faithfully & carefully balances the styles they play between what THEY want to play & what the crowd wants to hear. Just my opinion of course.           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch

U misunderstand!

Sure....play for the crowd....no beat mixing just fades or beat mix...and they WILL still love the music ...if its the music THEY like...right?

They will respect you cuz of the music you playing for THEM.

But.... to REALLY be able to say this DJ is good (not just the music he plays ....but his skills) you need to know what he is doing....not just hearing it.

I believe ...that i play for MYSELF!
I make music for MYSELF!

If the crowd likes what i make....ADDED BONUS!

I play my style of music that I like.....and i get gigs according to THOSE tunes...and my past performances. Then when the crowd see my name on the flyer.....they KNOW what kind or style of music to expect. (not the same tunes obviously).

They are liking MY style....and come to see....cuz they KNOW.

If i play to the crowd.....i will be like any house DJ...trying to stay in the loop of things....playing whatever music i need to ....to keep me getting gigs.

I don;t see that as a good thing.

Even when i mix.....I am Performing.....i am not JUST mixing.

Its your Reputation that gets you the gigs....not JUST your demo CD.

So stay true to YOURSELF ...and make yourself happy on the decks....and if the crowd likes it....u will be getting more gigs.

I am not gonna be doing my best if i play whatever makes others happy.....and it will show in my set and energy too.
Too many people come and ask for INFECTED MUSHROOM when i am playing.

YOu can't please them all.

Stash i completely disagree with u in some points :
1.Never play mp3 stuff
2.A dj still being professional or not, we are all humans and show our emotions is in our nature, me at least when playing like to dance as a crazy and connect to the people, i think is the most important , u feel happy and ok with what u're doing and playing
3.About playing unreleased tracks for shure is necessary to get an idea or fresh tunes upcoming, but also able to play a few memorable tracks that u knwo can rock the dancefloor.
dj is a shamna who drive the trance on the dancefloor.

i think "reading the crowd" is bullshit. i think a dj has to know what the crowd wants better than the crowd does, understand the journey and how to move it along. as an individual person you're not sitting there thinking "oh yeah, he's really responding to the crowd." you think "yeah, this track makes me want to dance, i'm going to dance now, thank you very much."

as for dj skills - overrated. look at gil, bless his heart, can't (or just doesn't) beatmatch. he just slaps one track after another. but the man is able to keep people moving for 30 hrs for a reason. no matter if you like his music, you have to admit THAT is a journey           sound is vibration

Maybe its the artists that keep the people dancing?? hehe.. i mean, gil or no gil, if the tunes are powerful, the people will dance..
Skills.. well, to me there just an added bonus.. Its cool though, to see that some people don't mind that the dj's don't beatmatch.           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

well i think "stars" as gil have a, i call it, star bonus.
when party people know that the "star" is playing they will dance more. many people dont care about beatmatching cause they dont know what mixing is...           - last possible solution
- trick music
- ambivalent records

My point Exactly!

The if you want respect of your skills....its only DJ's or those who know how to mix....that will really respect your skill.

yes and no...yes artists make the music, but the dj picks the tunes

on the other hand, i think the gil experience is very unique. i'll just be listening and thinking "where the FUCK does he get this MUSIC!?" cuz beyond just being at the top of the unreleased food chain, these days artists are making tracks just for him. or at least with him in mind. always experimental and ahead of its time. SUPREMELY psychedelic...           sound is vibration
