well i played several diffrent sets lately and i have my opinions... and offcourse u hear them now...

1.what makes a good dj? simple - if the crowed dance and enjoy and 10% or more will remember your set more then a month or two.... u defintly "do the work" pro level? need to know evry kind of mix (complex bpm's, beatmix ,eq mix, fade in and out is simple but must have the right "feel") and to play several styles to flow with the moment (not make playlist at home.. or do basic but pay attention to the pplz infront of u)

2.sam-i beatmix alot (20-30 % in set) and i think i can beatmix texas pritty nice mostly with squaremeat faster trax or tsabeats heh its true most of this music is not so into that kind of mix and it need to tell its own story.. in my night set (which is g.o.w jahbo style) its much more effective style of mixin

3.sam again - pitch is something that i 80% of the time let it b.... if need to change for the mix its ok but most of the track stay with his key again.. it makes more diffrence in "freestyle" trance rather then "formula" trance..

4.i believe in spiritual travel throu lysergic and music - lead pplz to better hallucination any dj did that is more then good dj!           www.sattelbattle.com

man, have you ever tried beatmixing Texas Faggott? Or even more difficult, Scozbor? Maybe Nam Shub? It doesn't work! There's no point anyway! The tracks are usually freaked out to the end! Beat-mixing Traunce on the other hand is easy - count the number of bpm difference between the tracks, multiply by ~0.7, pitch up / down by that amount then fine tune by ear & hey presto, we have a match! Even with the really nice melodic trance, why would you want to fuck with the pitch? I leave tracks in the key they're written.

Offcourse I've already tried mixing texas faggott, mandalavandalz and scozbor. Its my favorites style of music together with darkpsy, otherwise i would'nt know what I'm talking about. And I have to admit that it is really difficult and not always necessary but it can be done. Once again it's all about finding that track that sounds similar therefore you need a large musiccollection. If there were more artists that sounded like scozbor/ the nam of shub it would be not so difficult to mix it.

About your easy trancebeatmixn theory : you can make any mix as difficult as you wish. Try mixin simple psytrance (skazi, astrix ,...) with 3 decks 2 faders open most of the time and things would become way more difficult. There is more that could be done than simply mix your tracks 1.5 min fade in fade out.

I think psytrance is missing a real dj culture. The crowd does'nt demand highly skilled dj's like in other gernes, this is something it really regrett.

hmmm.. different strokes for different folks I guess. I would love to see the crowds you play to that can handle 2 Scozbor tracks layered on top of one another I find it hard enough finding a crowd that can handle even 1!!! also, with the weirdness, I'm talking more about their stuff that is not so 'trancey' - sure there are many tracks from these artists that are very beatmixable, but they're not necessarilly their best With melody, like Talpa, I find that excessive mixing kills the vibe, that's all. Maybe it's just me?           new Hadal Drop album on the way

sam i am : you're wright in your way.

I'm sure you're dj sets are killers according to your taste and your mission to freak out the crowd.

I just don't like reading that mixing is easy. I had and still have to practice a lot.

take care.

not everyone can like what you are doing...but many do!

Who is right..and who is wrong?

no one....its a matter of taste in the end.

However....to choose a DJ to be the best...u must know how to mix yuorself....or else you just choosing his music!

and a playlist is not what makes a DJ.           Being wicked is AAIIT!

...just to multiply the different bpm by 0.7 isnt enough! you have to correct it all the mixing long cause the trax almost never run exactly the same speed...           - last possible solution
- trick music
- ambivalent records

when u got both tracks on the same bpm thats really not enough...
it isnt correct that tracks never run exactly at the same bpm...but when u play both tracks (on your headphones) u should spin (to slow a little bit the bpm or to high the bpm) the jog wheel to get a perfect beat on beat...
but thats not enough too...u should know when and where to beatmix...
anyway thats what i do when i beatmix

ohh come on now Helen, open up a little.. Try new things, create new sounds.. there are too many Dj's that just simply play tracks in parties or beatmix for a 64 bar, basically creating nothing new or different from the music you listen to in your house or car or walkman.

I like to try and create new sounds with those same old tunes, beatmixing them for long periods of times, blending those melodies, those basslines, adding some new hat sounds to the original track. Its like a remix of your favorite song, with another one of your favorite tracks. That's what i think makes a good DJ.. how many remixes he can make LIVE for the crowd..

but thats just my opinion, and mine only.. not my crew's, or my affiliated labels, Like the rest of the stuff i post up.. Thanks.           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

good dj gets a good feedback from the crowd, if he makes them groove with him!
go wild by spining the records!

Have a good time all the time!

YEah.....but then again...the crowd is only really listeningto the tunes he is playing.

IF his set is tight...its does make him a good DJ...but not the best...or better than other DJ's.

IF he tries successfully to pull new tricks off...and does not just wait till the track ends...that shows that he has skills.

I could not beatmix at all....and just fade intro's and outtro's .....and still have the crowd begging for more....just by playing a really good playlist.

But i think i rather would like to earn the respect of other DJ's as they can REALLY appreciate the skills.
Respect from the crowd is earned easier IMHO.           Being wicked is AAIIT!
