ok first of all you are just showing off..

second is that for a 7000$ speaker ofcourse you want look back.. any studio monitor in this price range is not to look back.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

What about KRK VXT 8?
Compared to Adam A7X or HS80M?

HS80M is half the price compared to KRK VXT 8 And Adam A7X.

Could i get away with using the hs50ms over the hs80m's. My room is quite small, but i am worried that they wont give me the low end i need.

What about the MSP5s? Nice and small, sound great. The MS range sounds way better than the HS range, IMO.

If you are using a small room, the last thing you want to be doing is pumping extra bass into it. It will just cloud everything up with standing waves and sound boomy and horrible.           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

+ a headphone if you don't have.
wihtout low end i find it hard to mix electronic music as i balance more or less the mix to it ...and forget all the fun /vibe factor wihtout lowend, that can sux for inspiration .. really not ideal situation imo

I live in cape town, South Africa and the shipping plus tax kills the pricing of nearly everything, ive found a second hand pair of HS50ms in good nic for a good price so its kind of my only solution. i am just worried that i wont have enough low end

I can't imagine there are no audio shops in SA. There is loads of people making music. Aren't there any?           soundcloud.com/supergroover

The ATC's are nice but unfortunately here in Aus there are no dealers who stock them, i have looked extensively and had a hard time trying to locate a pair to demo so i settled for Focal SM9's and i couldn't be happier.

Here is a pic for reference

I heard them side by side Focal twins, Genelec 8050's, Adam A7, Event opal's and Barefoot MM35's and can tell you that they sounded a cut above the rest with the Barefoot's a close second.

Truly amazing speakers!           http://soundcloud.com/multiv3rse

Yep checking the mids is really easy with 2 -way mode engaged the cut off is 90hz so you can see how well the mix translates to regular consumer speakers with a flick of a switch.

There bottom end is unbelievable! they go so low you can feel the thump in your chest, the stereo image is so precise probably the best i have ever heard in any monitor.

These are a very detailed speakers you will hear small nuances in recordings you would have never picked up before.

They have really smooth sounding mids and highs because of the low total harmonic distortion, they take a while before you get used to the sound it would appear to sound almost "too clean" this is because conventional speakers exhibit more distortion around these areas and this is perceived as more detailed or forward sounding while the Sm9's seem to appear more smooth or relaxed some would say.
There is eq adjustments on the back to compensate for your room or whatever characteristics you want to achieve, on the side next to the 2-way switch mode there is another switch to bypass all the eq settings on the back to give you an untouched signal.

I really can't fault these speakers they have been an awesome tool albeit a tad pricey.

@ chipset.ZA

i had the hs50m as my first pair of monitors and i was unhappy with them for quite some time - untill i adjusted the eq´s to my taste ... listening to a song i know pretty well and adjusting the eqs so it sounded most normal ... and after lowering the mid´s and the hi´s i had a decent sound and from this moment on i was quite happy with them untill i got my adam´s.

so if money is thight, the alternatives little and if you already have a good offer for them ... id say they are the way to go ...

for sure to little low end kills the creativity but u can make up a bit with the eq - and u dont have to worrie about acustical problems in your room so much           http://www.muckymusic.blogspot.de/

Hi there ,
i ve been able to listen to few models recently .
all the Focal range speakers ,the dynaudio Bm5a mkii ,the DBM50 ,some Mackies and Adam but the one that blew me away was from PMC witch i never heard about before .....
i must say that comparing the PMC DBS2s aII to the focal SM9 s i would never had spent the 4000 e price difference for the 3 way Focal model .....those PMC just sounded amazing ....
i was sad they haven t got on the test the higher end dynaudio stuff ....
we were 3 guys in the testing room making defferent styles of music ,and the PMC were just our favorites for us 3 ......
incredible stuff
