get this one is the best ultra cheap card you can get.

it has no inputs.
the outputs are unbalanced.
its plastic.
feels cheap.

but works rock solid and has 2 stereo outputs to work on traktor also.

i play live/dj with it all the time and its just plug and play!

i has the same converters E/MU is using (cirrus logic) dont know if that puts them 100% in their league but for 90 euro its a nice pack of cigarettes size box. perfect for itb things. although when using it as soundcard in producing (not in traktor) there is no headphones input anymore, there is no software mixer solution for that yet.
but maybe in an update its fixed.

i will try to find outwhat quality the sound is. can compare with motu828, Ti and a MaudioFW audiophile.

in the past there were lots of problems with mboxes when not used with protools. on mac core audio driver skipped a lot in logic in my place.

don`t know how it is these days..           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

RME Babyface http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_babyface.php

the cheapest of the company, and expandable via ADAT.           "The dedication to repetition the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

im thinking about a new setup...

atm im working with:
-emu 1212m soundcard
-mackie big knob
-40 art tube mp (shit)
-focal solos monitors

im thinking about a new interface, the emu thing got enough cubase errors and i dont like the software...

the interface should have:
-soundquality
-easy software (routing recording youtube etc live, recording microphone sounds...),
-a spectrumanalyzer would be nice too!
-low latency
-a mic preamp (as good as possible)
-48V phantompower
-a powerswitch!
-costs about 300 ...

i found some:
290 http://www.thomann.de/de/echo_audiofire_4.htm
360 http://www.thomann.de/de/focusrite_saffire_pro_24_dsp.htm

dont forget the interface output will be connecteted to the big knob. so i just need one L/R output.

any advice or suggestion appreciated!

cheers

Did you compare detailed technical data like dynamic range, total harmonic distortion and oversampled preamps, between those two? I bet the Echo wins. Anyway we got several Saffires in repair cause they smoked up. Its a few days back but i still wouldn`t trust Focusrite actualy.

speaking of echo's ive got a friend who has an unwanted gift that happens to be an 'audiofire 8' (got an rme fireface 800 and doesnt need it), he's just asking me for 250 euro for it (from shops in malta it costs 450 euro), Any feedback in regards, ive read some reviews and no one seems to have had any kind of trouble with it which is very encouraging. know anything about its sound quality?

Should i go for the motu ultralite mk3 as planned?, or go for the audiofore 8 for half the price?

audiofire...definatly for that price! sound qualy is amazing..almost same like the RME, motu in comparision sound a little muffy..les precise high end imo..

but if im right , the motu has more options on connections , so maybe depends on your setup as well.          -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

Actualy they have the same connections if im not mistaken, midi in & out, 8 inputs & 8 outputs and spdif & headphones. the motu has a usb 2 connection also which i dont need, and it also has the built in fx which i dont need either since i use a tc fireworx.

So i guess its going to be an audiofire 8 , im pretty sure i will hear alot of difference from my audio kontrol 1!, cheers

your question answered, in detail!

Universal Inputs – AudioFire4 and AudioFire8
The universal input connections can accept balanced or unbalanced signals via ¼” or XLR connectors. Since your AudioFire has built-in preamps, you can just plug your microphone or guitar cable right into the universal input. No external preamp, direct box, or mixer is needed!
To use a microphone, plug the microphone’s XLR cable into any of the universal inputs. Whenever an XLR cable is connected to a universal input, the microphone preamp is enabled and the gain range of the trim knob is set to range from +10 to +59dB. The input impedance of each microphone preamp is 1.5Kohms. Full-scale input is 9dBu with the trim set to minimum gain.
Your AudioFire provides 48 volts of phantom power for microphones that require it. On AudioFire4, to enable phantom power, press the button labeled +48v in the AudioFire Console (the +48V LED will light up) and phantom power will be provided to all microphone inputs. On AudioFire8, to enable phantom power, press the button labeled +48v on your audio interface box (the LED next to it will light up) and phantom power will be provided to all microphone inputs.
Note: Phantom power will not be applied to any line level equipment or guitars plugged in using cables with ¼” connectors.
To record a guitar or line level signal, just plug a cable with a ¼” connector into one of the universal inputs. Whenever a ¼” cable is connected to a universal input, the guitar/line preamp is enabled and the gain range of the trim knob is set to range from 0 to +45 dB. The guitar/line preamp can support both guitar & line level signals. The input impedance of each guitar/line preamp is 102Kohms. Full-scale input is 18dBu with the trim set to minimum gain.
If you want to adjust the input level of a universal input, just turn the trim knob and watch the corresponding level meter. The red light at the top will light anytime the input signal is greater than –6.5dBFS (or within 6.5dB of clipping). The yellow light represents a signal greater than –12.5dBFS, and the green light represents a signal greater than –36.5dBFS.
