used for the first time my audiofire 2 with my monitors ,i havent a/b it yet to something else, maybe i will do next week but my first impression on the d/a was on the low end, go deeper and it have more depth than what i m used with rme but will report later if i do some test...and yes maybe the highend is a bit smoothed, veiled, have to do a/b to hear the transients definition and the more carefull stuff. rme dont sound veiled but dont have much depth and sound more stressed vs better converters, echo seems better for the depth but worst for high end definition ,dunno this stuff need serious testing can t say i m sure of all this...except about the rme sound ,that is great but still low end vs converters like prism orpheus

want to add if the highend get "cut" or "blurry" hard to find words ... ,it can veil the sound and the transients can loose some definition ,it can be a factor that seprate good convertion from not as good ones. for example a da/ad loops at mastering can clearly affect a lot the sound if the converter does this to the point that it might be better to stick into the computer than going into a hardware processor .

Alrighty!
Just got myself a mac book pro and now I am looking for a decent soundcard that is above all stable and will not give me any problems what so ever for the rest of my life/live

I have two usb outputs that might be best to save for storage etc and a FW 800 output that I think I ll use for the soundcard. I prefer not to spend more than 250-300 euro's because I also need to buy some software like ableton. But if there is a really good option i ll spend some more bucks if it makes life/ live easy.

I am thinking about the konnekt 6 or the impact twin from tc electronic. I have the konnekt 8 for my desktop and a friend of mine has the konnekt 24 for his mac book pro. Both work very nice! So I might stick to TC because they seem to work well. But I am of course considering more companies. I read some previous posts about Focusrite, Echo, M-audio (no go for me) and presonus. Zork seems to favour the Echo's.

So.....
any opinions on the Motu audio express? http://www.thomann.de/nl/motu_audio_express.htm
on the Edirol FA 66 http://www.thomann.de/nl/edirol_fa66.htm
or on the TC impact twin http://www.musicstore.de/nl_NL/NLG/Computer/FireWire-audio-interfaces/TC-Electronic-Impact-Twin-FW-Audio-Interface-Integrated-F/X/art-PCM0009626-000?

Would be great to read some comments. And to add a bit of useful info to this topic and future readers.

Hey, does anyone here have any experience with NI Audio Kontrol 1?

Seems like a good interface for a small budget. Any other recommendations in this class? I need something which is good for producing as well as djing.

Yeah and it also doubles up as a midi controller which is pretty cool.

Akai is launching a really sick looking 200$ interface. Check it out.

Ok so looks like the Audio Kontrol 1 was discontinued a while back though its still available and NI forums has revealed numerous issues with it so thats out of the question.

Ok I just got the impact twin from tc electronic for my mac book pro. It works like a charm. Easy peasy to set up and no hassle what so ever!

Will comment later when I spent more time with it.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

Ive pretty much narrowed down on the Echo Audiofire 4.

Noob question.

Ive been using a soundcard with only a 1/2 output. Now that Ill have 4 outputs, how exactly will I setup ableton so I can cue on headphones for Djing?

Many thanks           StarLab - Label DJ/Artist for Digital Om Productions

Maybe more a question for an ableton topic. Check the dj section. I am sure it is talked about there. Or find a video on youtube that explains djing in ableton.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

The only thing that stopped me from getting the saffire 6 was that its USB 1.1.           StarLab - Label DJ/Artist for Digital Om Productions
