Hey..

i try to use windows on my mac..just for generating kicks and some Bass with Alien..but windows doesn`t detect my Firewire device in Bootcamp..

i`m using Tiger 10.4.11

i gues i just have to install a Firewire driver right?
is there any recommendation wich one i should use?

thx mark

try the one driver that comes with your firewire device on CD

Hm..don`t get this to work..i installed every Driver i could find..like the bootcamp drivers for sure and a realtek driver i heard somebody saying it will do the job..but windows doesn`t detect any sounddriver..wether onboard or not..so no firewire no onboard sound and even the dvd device shows up as cd-rom..argh!

hm..so in device manager there is pointed out the missing IEEE 1394 CONTROLLER...then one mysterious PCI DEVICE and thats kind of whatever..even in the macuser forum nobody gives a clear answer to that..could it be the very modified daw version of Windows?

thx

Couldn`t get this to work..anyway will uptade to leopard next days..any experience about plugin compatibility yet?

Mtz Mtzz >>>>>> if your using that version of XP that is 246mb or so I think you'll find firewire device drivers that might be common on a full install will be missing. Considering that version is only 246mb or so, I very much doubt that it will work, until you install the full Windows XP with SP2 as the boot camp instructions tell you

I'm looking for some advice in regards to Macbook Pro's. I have a Macbook Pro ordered and delivery to the supplier is expected within a day or two. It's a 17" 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM and a 200GB 7200rpm HDD.

The supplier rang today and asked if I would prefer one of the newer models instead, which are 'expected' in the next two weeks. Turns out this is a rumour, so it could potentially be much longer than that. It looks like these new models have a small Solid State Drive, which would be cool, but apparantly existing macbooks can also get an upgrade to have one of these, so it's not as much of a feature for me now. They use the new Penryn chip, which will apparantly give about a 20% performance increase and also use less battery and produce less heat.

This machine will only be used for live and not studio production, so I don't think that 20% is that important. My current setup is unreliable and I need a solid performance machine which is why I ordered the Mac.

So, my questions:

1. Is it worth waiting for the new Macbook Pro's? The benefits aren't that huge to my eyes, especially since later in the year there's talk of quad core Macbook Pros, so I'd just want to upgrade then anyway. I'm worried about the 'two weeks' becoming 'two months' or more, and being left without a solid live rig which I need for gigs in the next few months.

2. Do Apple have a history of bringing out new machines that are rock solid? My previous purchase was a Toshiba Dual Core that turned out to have an audio glitch, after the previous versions were recommended highly by other producers as being stable and flawless with audio and a MOTU Ultralite (which I have). I don't want to risk spending $4000 AU on a new Macbook Pro only to have some glitch appear... so when a new machine comes out, is it normally stable for audio?

Any other thoughts appreciated... thanks!

Hey man,

sure they are definatly very stable machines..don`t worry about that..but i would say..do not order the ram thru Apple...it`s damn overpriced..get it from third party seller..like here..
http://www.dsp-memory.de/v1/catalog/default.php?cPath=1_9035&

don`t know if they ship to you..but have a look in your area..it`s worth the money..

and well..i would wait two or three weeks and if nothing happens then with the new model..i would go for the old model..is good enough..and like you said..if you want to upgrade later on anyway..it does make no big difference..you will be able to performe rock solid anyway..

enjoy!           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

well pretty expensive isn`t it?on this brand i mentioned i got 10 years warranty on the ram itself and payed 30€ or something..and its very easy to plug it in..but well..now you got specific warranty of any issues that might come up due to usage of ram or something..is good for sure..but well..maybe next time you consider third party ram as well..

enjoy!           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.
