Well. As I see progressive; there are 2 styles.
1. Comer & liter on many tracks from this style you can find pads as a bass lines. This style is good for home listening or traveling, and even better as party opener!
Antix, Minilogue, Behind Blue Eyes...

2. Powerful and fatter
Has a strong bass line; more psychedelic and sometimes you can find yourself Dancing like its full on (like guy cohen said once.)
Yotopia, Freq!!! Liquid soul

I must admit that I am more of the 2nd style person.
I was once on party from the 1st style and it is nice and fun, but the 2nd is better.

I agree with u and i like also the more strong progge style. i think that he devolved into somefing betwine the full-on and progressive and can be could agrassive

and this type of music (the inbetween) is much more in the original spirit of trance music

i have to put my 5 cents in this one

in Israel as usual thing happen late.... and so the quite late bloom of progg here has a bit of a blinding effect on us as a whole. there is definite growth in progg in parties in the last year but i think it came late compared to the reast of the world. mabey in germany the progg scene is in decline but i think it is a temporary thing and it will grow again soon (tfu tfu tfu) and will grow steadily in the world.

i must agree that in the past year NOTHING new was written in full on and in dark psy. and in trance terms - a year is eternity as we all know.... everything sounds like something else. it prg however there is still more room left for stretching the musical envelope and I for one and buzy doing just that.

and one more thing: pinkE - some of us old geezers can handle our high bpm but we have also learned long ago that going full gas in neutral eventualy gets yu nowhere

well, after reading this whole thread i guess I am wondering what is new in progressive?
Why do you feel that there are more possibilities to explore in this subgenre than any other?

while i can see that full-on is a formula- you either fit it or you don't-
(coming from being an adjective- as in "thats full on music!" i.e. full power)

i disagree that the Dark Genre even exists as it seems to be a lump category for anything:

1) too high energy to be something else
2)scary, genuinely dark, etc...
3)wacky silly funny or strange
4)genuinely psychedelic- freaky, avante garde, etc...

and i personally object that nothing new has come from these categories
I've been making music since 1993 of all different kinds and always slipped through the cracks somehow and never quite signed up for anyones movement and i know i'm not alone so...

@ Ocelot

I think that the so called 'Proggy' sub genre offers the artists much more freedom of creation then the other sub genres of the global trance clan. Take it as u wish but if one wants to make full on music today, it has to sound in a very specific way, which kinda makes it not very artistic, but mechanic. In the same time, proggy sub genre makes it possible to go further exploring variety of different sound patterns, when the major tasks is play with yer head, and not with yer feet.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

well I dont know where the Proggy way is going but from what I'v heard latly it seems to me like it goes more to the clubby-housy-cheesy ways - which u addmited yourself on Hafirot... in my eyes that kind of music misses the whole essence of psychedelica and doesnt put any challange to my ears, if I wanna shake my booty to those tunes I can go to TLV or Dome for that matter. but again thats just me, I dont think that there is any heirarchy in music, and if it brings the club scene to trance then so be it, after all one of the beautiful things about Trance music is that it attracts people from all types of genres and can fit themselves wherever they want...

so I dont think that just because a genre in Trance is faster makes it any less intelligent, creative, interesting, "not for the head"... on the contrary I find Darkpsy and Finpsy (my favourites) as much for the head as it is for the legs, one doesnt have to come over the other...
IMO one of the most innovating, interesting and creative genres is Fin psy, but as the quality of the sound tends to be low it is being patronized and cancelled as childrens music... I agree that the crowd of Finpsy and Dark music tends to bring a younger crowd (especially in Israel) but havent all those old geezers were once kids themselves when they have started going to Trance parties?
plus I agree with Ocelot that Darkpsy offers a wide range of musical expressions and for people who came from Metal/Punk/Gothic music it is the best next step... so I believe the so frequently and popular description "cats in the blender" is not very suitable for this genre, and I would like to believe artists and dj's have a wider musical vocabulary to describe music than that...

i agree.
it seems that some of the people who call themselves prog lovers think they found the light, and the rest of people (those who listen to non-progressive trance)- well, "they will find out for themselves".

i suggest to all who think they have some ownership of "good taste" to understand that there is good music in EVERY trance genre, whether it's prog, full on, finpsy or dark
(i can show some "proves" but it's not the point).

yes i agree with mat n
i think i found in every style 2 3 artist the always produce smothing original and intersting wether its prog fin or dark but from what i see latly in prog and drak 90 % of the music is the same! this is why cant continue listening to trance all becuse all the massive releses of alboms and compilation that sounds the same it make to get out form the trance music and find new and original sounds {minimal tech that sound more trancy then any trance act imo or elctro

Think thats better from that noisey fullon and
surely better for our ears . Peoples back to the
nature , To the deepnes of the sound and tune
and not asking with an whistling irritating and
torment suffering ''music" . They want go back
to the roots , To feel the ground moves and to
connect to mother land . Thats why . G night !
