there is "Track2" and a bigger one "AD8000" .
as far as i know apogee are the best on the market .
(much better than those shitty Motu828).
anyway if u need a card for making trance music ,
go and buy creative sound blaster, u can get great results
with it and u will save your money .

i know this is a old post but how can you say that the 828 is 'shitty' and then recomend sound blaster.

doesnt make sense to me.

the 828 sounds A LOT better than the soundblaster.
it has the same converters as the 2408 mkII and @48k it sounds better than any m-audio, echo audio, roland, whatever at the same sample rate........and especially sound blaster

Since this post already exists, let me ask:
Im buying a new soundcard and need help making a choice. Now I did search on this site and nobody seems to agree since everybody's needs are different. So let me say what Im looking for in a card and see if you guys can shed some light.

Right now I Have SB-LIVE, using KX ASIO Drivers. Latency is almost nothing. Now, I use CUBASE SX2 with tons of VST(i)'s (Waves, z3ta+, Vanguard, Albino2, Fm7, etc) and Reason. Thats it. I will NOT be connecting hardware like Analog synths, etc. I DON'T plan on Recording anything either. So since the Digital to Analog converters are out of the picture, would a different card actually SOUND better than SB Live? If the sound is 100% digital and the FX I use are all from Waves, NOT from the soundcard itself, is there a difference?
Now my MAIN issue is that I would love for the Sound Card to handle many of the VSTs and free up my CPU. Please suggest a card for me that ISNT in the Creamware Pulsar price range. Thanks guys.

It will sound better on your monitors, but not in your final recordings..because you do all the processing internally.
Is this what u wanna hear ?!?!?

I'm not sure that D/A convertors are the only difference between sound cards. So even internal processes can sound different on different sound cards.

Hello I know Sound Blaster is not really pro kit but there is a new PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card for notebooks that has got good reviews. It has lots of outputs (for 7.1) and a very good sampling rate for input. It's what I need for Traktor and a bit of studio work although my problem with installing Sound Blaster sound cards is all the rubbish software it installs as well (fx for gaming etc) however this can be avoided I hope but you have to be careful. PCMCIA also means avoiding USB hassles, and it fits nealty into an otherwise used PCMCIA socket.

Its just out - not in this part of the world yet but I have ordered one.
Here's a review:

At the risk of going off topic maybe this sort of h/w is the first step towards 5.1 trance? All you need is a s/w mixer. Traktor Ver 3 maybe

B'om!!

I've heard alot o people say the Sound Blaster is only good for gamers .. I have an SB 7.1 Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro which has an external hub for MIDI and instrument connections ..I am using only Reason 3.0 for production ... but of late as my tracks have started becoming more complex in structure and size i'm having a problem with LATENCY - CLICKS AND POPS during playback. I have an X session and M Audio Ozone both connected to my PC via USB. My PC is a P4, 2GB RAM and 200 GB HDD/2. I need low latency cos i'm not an expert and have to manually work alot with the piano roll and tweaks .. helps alot .. less rework and frustration. I have a chioce of 4 or 5 ASIO drivers, currently i'm using the Creative one. There are two audigy and an M audio asio drivers too but no response with them .... any seggestions ... would really appreciate some help! ;(           "... b'om ..."
