I m just in the same position.... few different cards to choos from and decided that the Delta 44 sould be the best value for money..
it has a interface with 4 in and 4 0ut which is good for live perfomences..... u can hook up reason, fruty loops, cubase on all different chanels on the external mixer... so this way u have more quick control over ur music.... low latency also.....what i have heard.......any sugestions or recomendation welcomed!!!! : )

depends on what u wanna do. I know people who think the best is Motu 828 but thats if u need all the ins or outs...and many people say that the RME Hammerfall is the best (it comes with dsp) ,,,im not thinking about how much it costs when i say this! Oh yeah and to use logic the emi 8|2 m..also for protools of course the killer digi002 .. well good luck looking hope this helps

if u want the best , check out www.apogeedigital.com
there is "Track2" and a bigger one "AD8000" .
as far as i know apogee are the best on the market .
(much better than those shitty Motu828).
anyway if u need a card for making trance music ,
go and buy creative sound blaster, u can get great results
with it and u will save your money .

Well, I use RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface, I'm totally happy with it, and I don't see howcome Trance Music is so "that easy" to achieve with "not so good equipment"!!!           "The Light Children Are Awakening!"

Ok, i didn't say that trance is "qualityless music" ,
my point is that today's production techniques of most
trance music is became very "computerized" , i mean
that with today's software it's possible to make quality
tracks in "computer only" environment , without external
audio sources. And what makes good audio card so
expansive ? The AD/DA converters . If all u need for
producing tracks is vsti's and samples , there is no need
in quality AD converters , that means u don't need
expansive audio card to get good results .
If all your sound sources are already digital , so they
don't need to pass the AD conversion, u get same quality
on let's say "Pulsar" and "SB-Live" after u record yo track
to a CD . Correct me if i wrong .

Today's PC's powerfull enuff to kick out almost every DSP
soundcard , and it's a lot cheaper to buy dual processor
computer than regular computer with expansive DSP
soundcard .
Maybe only ProtoolsHD has some advantages in DSP area.

C3PO: and what about quality inputs/outputs? Strong ASIO support? And even the 'weaker' proffesional soundcards like the Delta66 take a lot of load off the CPU, much more effective than buying a motherboard capable of dual processing and the strongest CPUs you can get for the same price as the soundcard. Sound Blaster series just does NOT cut it when you want to make music on a proffesional level, and that includes the Audigy 2.

As to the question, m-audio give the best price/performance ratio, so they'd be a solid buy. Some people here swear by the RME cards, and those guys know what they're talking about, so I'd assume that would be the best buy if you can afford it.          http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

guys...sorry for rudeness.
C3P0:
generally if u want to make something of a higher quality,
u better get the best quality material for best quality product, this is the same principle in audio:
if you work on your track in 100khz 32bit, and eventually convert it to CDDA format with a good converter - it will sound a little bit better than, working in 44100/16 all the way, of course if you have talent, you can record lousy stuff @96/24 quality.
kaz...
how exactly Delta takes the load off the CPU ?
it only reads audio from memory or writes audio to memory. exactly like SB, or other PCI card. it does no process, only stream.
it is ab audio I/O interface, not a flying soucer.

and BTW... where is that guy who asked this question ?
i have a question for him: how many $$$ do u have to spend ?

bom.
