After Logic Bomb - Shadow of the Beast (which was blatant and uncredited theft of X-Dream - Panic in Paradise), we are forced to conclude that when the premiere acts of the scene do this, there is absolutely no need to even be surprised that smaller acts take it a bit further. This has been happening for years, and for all the oldschool goa/psytrance encyclopedias out there, we've been hearing melodies stolen from The Infinity Project, MFG, The Art of Trance and other melodic geniuses for ages (and I mean... about 10 years now). The full-on enthusiasts can remark on how many breakdowns have been stolen from GMS, Psychopod, Astrix, Psysex, Domestic and others. Prog fanatics have life easier this way, but the amount of sheer theft from Son Kite, Vibrasphere and Atmos is also insane. This is nothing new.

Of course, there are artists that innovate. Frankly, innovation is something most people don't care about - and that fact is what makes this theft so common. I'm talking about DJs, labels, but first and foremost about the listeners. But hey, in the greater perspective of things, looking back to the development of jazz (in which nearly every band gives their own rendition of famous creations), rock (Led Zepplin based their carreer on creating new and exciting renditions of blues themes that had been out there for decades, Elvis took a lot of what was considered "black music" and gave it commercial appeal, the list does go on), maybe this isn't a bad thing.

But hey, if you really care about this stuff, how about supporting creative artists with exciting new material? Nag party organizers you know to bring special acts instead of more of the same, buy albums that sound special, that grow on you, show labels that this is what you want. Changing this can only happen from the bottom up, as the way it goes from top to bottom is that labels are punished for releasing anything that isn't instant-satisfaction for the average listener. When sitting with some friends, put some music to pique their curiosity. What I'm saying is simple, don't be outraged, try and make a difference.

Sadly, this is nothing new.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

I'll have to check out Shadow of the Beast, I can't remember what it sounds like right now.
I don't think its fair to compair a jazz standard or elvis to this track though, its just not the same thing.
To me this track is more like taking The Beatles song Let It Be, use the same exact music and only changing the words to Lets be Free.

Lets Be Free, Lets Be Free, Lets Be Free, Lets Be Free.
Screaming words of knowledge, Lets Be Free.

I think actually that DJ Chet represents the majority of trance listeners, and I think he is dead serious.

And this is what's so sad about that issue           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

And I would make a point here..

Every artist be it Led Zeppelin or Stephan Bodzin, is affected by someone or something. Being influenced from other artists is totally normal thing. Especially in today's music, when there is so many things going on, it is virtually impossible to do something completely new, and still fit it to the crowds taste and needs, that are pretty important as well, at least as it goes with dance floor orientated music.

There is a major difference, however, between being influenced by music of other artist, to actually re writing this other artist work, or "borrowing" his melodies.. I find this kind of "art" pretty distasteful and sometimes disgraceful.

We need to learn to respect each other and our own selves little bit more and refrain from doing this, in the end of the day it will only bring damage to us and to out scene.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

I have to agree with Yuli here, but DJ Chet is the standard psytrance fan here, and this is why these things happen. A good example was the first morning of the Doof festival - 3 different DJs, one after another, played the same track in their sets (some remix to The Loin King). The crowd ate it up. Can you blame them for giving the dancefloor more of what they ask for? And can you blame the labels for releasing music that will be popular?

As I said - you find this distasteful, find ways to promote a better way. Bitching about it in the forum is a start, but hey, every veteran raver does that here (myself included, occasionally).           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

All of this was already discussed.

For example, @ this 2003 topic:

What if the music that is being played twice is always the same in EVERY party (like already happened with Alien Project's One God) or what if there is less than two hours between the music being played again?

I believe sometimes DJ must be versatile and change their sets...
Respect!

I won't even at a link about copy & paste because the
Search will probably give some error like System Overloaded with Results or something...

IMO the best we can do is not to make the same mistakes and keep our personality regardless of the external pressures (I believe that competition is one of the main factors that make DJs play the same tracks, they want to have as much crowd response as the previous guy, but they are not secure enough to try it with different tunes).

Im sorry but if you find these 2 tracks similar, you could also start to comparing all the shitty 150bpm dark acts that uses the exact same kickbasses and fx from track to track...

We don't see anyone bitching about that...

Agree with every word Yuli. There is a huge wealth of sounds and culture that if artists will usue it in their music, in their instruments, in their concepts, they could create their sound, their music with news.
It's natural to have sources of inspiration and models, but its important imo to try new things, ideas and create your sound, bring your own message, if you have it let the art go out..
