Hi.
As a father to a 5 years old terrorist-angel, I am more than willing to take him with me to gigs, provided that they are open-air affairs and not a club party.
We took Ariel to the Good Karma party cruise, which was a very good experience for everybody - both for us and for the party goers who enjoyed seeing the little rascal running between their legs. We also took him to several other fests where there was space around, and I dont recall any problems.
About the drugs: common, Candy and all - one one hand you all take drugs, and on the other you say that kids shouldn't see it? a bit of hypocrizm... I have no problem with doing drugs in front of my kid - au contr'e, I think it might prove educational to him later on. I prefere him to learn to do drugs from me than from someone I don't know, and although these days my pharmacutical recreation is concentrated on Weed alone, its still better that he learns about it from me than to try and hide it from him.

About dogs, well, one of the worst acid experiences I've ever had included a raging Rothviler hound charging at me while tripping on Hofman2000 - believe me, its not a recomended experience. if you wanna bring dogs, consider it a public park: you may release your dog only if you are 100% sure it knows how to behave, otherwise you risk others.

Cheers,

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE CHICKENS OR GEESE TO PARTIES!
once, a very sad happening took place here in Brazil... we had a party in a farm where they raised birds... and on the day after the party many birds were found dead...

The poins it: it can be perfectly normal to take kids and dogs and even chickens to parties, but we would have to deal with their limitations, the influence upon them and their influence upon the environment around them!

Unless it's a multi-days festival I don't like to see dogs at parties. Especially the furious ones...
And kids, if they're with their parents and their parents behave with responsability (a.k.a. not taking too much acid), it's ok.

About dogs...
I have a 3 months whippet called Thera, here´s a picture of her
http://whipp.no.sapo.pt/thera1.jpg

We are organizing a small new year´s evening party (200 ppl) and I plan to take her with me...
She is very sociable but very small and I plan to watch her all the time and se how she behaves...if all goes well I plan to take her to more small parties.

In my opinion if you bring your dog to a party, do it only if he is sociable and won´t hurt other animals or people, be prepared to pick all his shit (bring plastic bags) , and ALWAYS WATCH WHAT HE IS DOING.
If you want to bring him you have to watch him cause there are many bad things that can happen like fights between dogs, eating hazardous things and your puppy can even be stolen.
Don´t forget you brought him there...

She's a cutie!!!!! What eyes... You could melt in her eyes.Be careful indeed. Puppies have a tendency to "explore" and forget to come back.

Cute dog, cool name, too. I would advise bringing him to his first party only in the morning and keeping him on a lead to start with. And you're right to watch out for theives, a friend of mine had 2 puppies (and his bag of records) stolen from a party a couple of years ago. It can happen. And it's pretty sick really.           "One nation under a groove".

Thera thanks your kind words.

The party will be on a farm, and since we have a house to stay, she will be in the party by morning, and I plan to watch her all the time.

I think pups and children are fine at outdoor parties, just keep them away from the loudspeakers!!! Their ears are so much more sensitve then those of adults.

ON DOGS:

I don't allow dogs at outdoor events I organize. Period. As an organizer, my responsibility is maintaining the greater good, and I'm sorry, but dogs can be a real pain. I LOVE dogs, just not at events. I agree that certain dogs can be great at parties: friendly and frisky and all that. But the combination of canine and parties is too unpredictable. I have seen dogs tied up close to the dance floor barking nonstop (probably because they are feeling pain from the speakers--dogs are far more sensitive to both high and low frequency sounds than humans), really hurting the atmosphere of the party. Numerous time I've been scared by the sudden sound of a dog barking while tripping. Or recently I played at an ambient side at night where two giant dogs were tied up by their owners. The these two beasts barked the entire night and emptied the chill area. Not much of a chance to chill with weed and the sounds of an animal screaming in distress. Acid and dogs is not a good mix. So I say sorry to those cool dogs and their owners who I miss, but it's the only responsible decision I can make. If that makes me a grandpa along with Mr. E, so be it

ON BABIES:

I can't stop people from bringing babies from coming to a party, but it worries me. Kids are great, just not babies.

Kids can sometimes see parties better than parents. One article I saw about kids at trance festivals in Japan quoted a mother on her little girl. Her girl talks with lots of other kids, listens to the music a bit and bops around, and then runs around nature. The girl thought that the "adults" at the parties were very strange because they were dancing so seriously all the time, instead of talking and playing!! I think this girl understands something about parties that adults often miss!

When it comes to kids, the responsibility is the parents', not the promoter's. But for god's sake, KEEP YOUR KIDS AND BABIES AWAY FROM THE FREAKING SPEAKERS. Hearing damage is cumulative, permament and irreversible--not a gift you want to give to a child.

The single saddest thing I have ever seen at a party was at the Koh Phangan 2002 New Year's party. This Japanese woman, zonked on something, was carrying her naked little baby around the dance floor, and this poor thing was screaming her lungs out and the mother just seemed more annoyed than anything else. If anyone else here was at that party, you will know there was nowhere on that floor where your ears were safe. The decibel levels were just totally insane for such a small space. If I saw that at one of my events, I would kindly encourage the woman to leave the dance floor, but it's difficult when someone is in that state of mind. I feel bad today that I didn't do anything then, other than just look away.
