Just curious on how different synths process waveforms through their filters.

What i did is essentially create the same simple saw bass patch on a variety of synth in my plugin collection. The results came out quite interesting.

Some really stand out while others are quite lacklustre.

Here are the synths used in order from 1st to last.

Sylenth 1
Massive
Dune
Dune 2
FF One
Podolski
PoiZone
Sawer
Spire
Serum
Surge
TAL Bassline 101
TAL Un-No-LX
Tyrell N6
Zebra CM
ES1
ES2

actually this isn't very useful... you still need to realize that this examples have more to do with the programming that went on with each machine, much more so then the machine's intrinsic qualities contributing to define the sound.

threads like this have been around for ages now. there's a (somewhat) recent one where folks posted examples made with tons of machines, and some of them overlapped - and they all sounded very distinct! even when the same machine was used! so it's mostly about how you program the sound and how you go about processing it later on to shape it better and to make it fit your song!

there's no gold machine that clearly stands out from the crowd that's better suited for bass sounds! there's only what you feel best about and works for you!

Maybe not but he took the time to do it, upload it and post, so fair play.           https://soundcloud.com/pro-gram-0

^including me and many others who also took the time to post examples...

the point is that all these machines can produce a miriade of different sounding patches, depending on how they're programmed. so if this is meant to provide some clue as to what instrument is better suited for bass, then it's meaningless at best! cheers

amen to that bro

tbh...I find most bass lines stagnant. all really sound the same which is a shame//....

I know theres limits due to speed of track and mix profiles ...but fuck me its like watching kids play football....everybodies running after the ball

I don't mean to offend but its just how I feel

whatever happened to the musical exploration of texture and frequency

get a mike and go out and bang shit about
youd be surprised what you come up with
rather than spend fucking hours trying to shoehorn synths into a mix

sorry once again if this is a bit out of order ...but when theres no exploration theres little inspiration.

I gave up trying to write psy....why... well beause I wasn't really enjoying the journey

im, not trying to push my point on anyone by any means . but surely making music should be for the LOVE and JOY of doing it,,,,not for the sake of getting it right

get it wrong.....please. release your efforts and let them run free

like Bruce Lee said......"don't look at the finger....or you will miss ALL the heavenly glory"....

ok right I said it.... NOW DO YOUR WORST....lol          Â°Â°Â°ACTS 4:12°°°°

yep true .. thnaks for this always intresting to hear, but yeah proraming play a big role .
can you share the kick so i can compare to some other synths.

in spire try to use the built in compresssor , it can sound very..dunno how to say but it can work really good on the caracrete of bassline (didn t try on psy bass yet )
