u think people would pay to dl mp3s when they could get it free of the net....think again.....

I think I stated my opinion already.
I really don't care if people get the music for free.
I would be happy if people stopped producing music to please the labels that in their turn want to please the distributors.
I rarely like any of the released music anyways, the stuff I like is normally from underground artists that don't fit in the mold or is new and haven't got time to adjust yet.
It's far too much about "milking the cow" and far to little about people making music for love nowadays.

But I will probably buy some few tracks that I do like from for example saikosounds when they have their download shop up and running.
Because I think initiatives like that is good and will help to break the mold.
And the artists will actually get some of my money.
But buying CD's to support mainly distributors, CD pressing plants, logistics companies and labels....naa...I don't like to have my music in a impractical and unreliable format myself, so why should I pay for the extra costs involved?

That's another reason I rather would buy from a download service.

CD's is using error correction and your audio will be deterioated, even on a CD in good condition.
With a FLAC file that doesn't happen, and I can feel assured of having full quality.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Am i wrong for having 1500+ releases in mp3 format wich i collected for 7 years and spending at least 10hrs per day on listening or i'm wrong and i represent a night mare of the scene like virus and i must be estinguished?

I just buy psy trance because I have been doing it for the past 10 years. I love the ppl who are making music, making parties and who put the effort into building something I completly embrace. Buying for me it represents a token of appreciation and my small grain of sand to keep this beautiful thing happening. I am blessed with a good job and enough money to help.

In 2001-2002 I downloaded many tracks to find what music I really liked, since I had stopped playing psy trance for a couple of years. Once I found what i wanted and i had it clear in my mind I have my CD wallet full with releases.

Also, I usually buy mostly night music, so I might get together with a friend who plays morning and copy some music from each other. I do not copy the music that has been given to me. I never go gun hoe with the burner. I might get 20 bought to one copied CD in my wallet. I see it as a way to widen my horizons and perspective... from close friends.

I also do not criticize ppl who download. The service exists for a reason. The effect on our culture varies. Some ppl just drain the business side of things, some ppl get inspired to make music and parties... But this is the way it is. I think we have enough ppl like me, who supports to keep this beautiful experience more alive than ever. And purchasing music is greatly appreciated by the labels and stores. For me this positive spiral of appreciation is what have always make me love psychedelic trance and everyone involved.

BOM!

Surely it's OK to download out of print stuff that is difficult, if not impossible to find & buy. Do people (esp artists) think that this is distinct from d/ling new releases?

I would say that's OK - in fact you kind of highlight one of the problems within the psy genre. So much of it just isn't available by regular means, especially the older material. Psytrance/ambient is not a music that 'finds' us as a rule, or that we're automatically saturated with on an every day basis like we are Britney, Madonna et al. It's an underground scene and therefore to a large extent it's music you have to go looking for or end up discovering by pure chance. One of my best friends is an old Goa head who got into psy while travelling in the late 90's. I, on the other hand, got into it because I liked 'regular' chill out/ambient, and I discovered some of my now-favourite artists while downloading randomly from chill sections. And that's my main argument - aside from personal money issues, CD prices blah blah - I don't want those artists to stop making music and I recognise the system is being abused, but where else do you go to sample a worldwide non-commercial music if not from p2p sites?? I wouldn't have the collection of CD's I now have had I not 'stolen' from these artists in the first place, sampled the material and then gone on a hunt to find it for purchase. It's easier now of course because I have a better idea what I'm looking for and when I know a biggie is on it's way I save up for it (Shpongle 3 comes to mind here......burning a hole on my credit card if you know what I'm saying.....)

Love 3;~

what about actually buying some of those releases? or you don't think they're worth the money?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."
