I don't see the problem with a label telling an artist that 'the track doesn't fit the VA.' It is in my opinion that each compilation should always have a story/theme which is used as a backbone to construct the compilation. In reality however, i have seen very few labels who have actually managed to go by these lines. These days compilations are triple loaded with a bunch of convincingly incompatible tracks so evolution is taken care of in its own way.

Also as Fria said, it might just be that the compiler doesn't want a track and is trying to be polite. The sector of artists who are willing to take honest, frank feedback are definitely the minority. Egos can be hurt quite easily
