Trance dj's think that 2 cdj's and atleast a beatmatching is called mixing (i do that everyday in my home for few hours-so am I a dj 2?)..hmmm i guess this is how this scene works. I've seen carl cox in london mixing with 5 vinyls making new tunes while playing all 5 together (lol)..who does that in the trance scene? Dont get me wrong i love psy but when i saw carl cox play like that i was jumping like a maniac. This the reason why trance mixed cds dont sell, because they are the same as unmixed cds with the only difference that the intro and end of each track is missing. There isnt any real attempt on creating a unique mix...sometimes i think even I can do it hehhe

ive seen carl cox also, and although im not the biggest fan of his type of music, i really aprreciate his djing. he is easily one of the world's best. although i have never seen 5 vinyls at once....ive never even heard of that before....i really wanna see that now!

i think it has to do with the type of music as well... you can have two psy trance tunes playing now and again, perhaps a third if it's some ambient or something, but there is just way too much going on to even attempt mixing more than three things at once, sometimes two is way too chaotic. I love carl cox, he truly has gift, but look at the material he's mixing, it's all beats... i guess someone talented enough could try... DJ shadow in his live shows mixes with three decks AND runs the JV show at the same time... now that is talent...

hell if i do find a good set ..i sure think its worth picking up and listening to it....

you forget that sometimes the story can be told when recorded as well...

but heres a small thing i find...i dunno how many feel this is true...playing live is a different thing...but when a set is recorded..a small error can be easily noticed..which may/may not be noticed when the person is playing live...so i guess thats why a lot of dj's artists shy away from making mixed cds...

but if an artist or a dj really wants to make a good clean set which progresses ...then whats the problem in going ahead and releasing a mixed cd...i would like that...! wouldnt you..?

I wish I could hear more mixed psytrance. A single track only lasts 6-7 minutes and my attention span is quite a bit longer than that... Has anyone seen Ableton Live? It's an amazing piece of software that enables the DJ (if it can still be really called that, as there are no discs or decks involved) to take individual elements of tracks and basically create off the cuff remixes in a live situation. Sasha uses it, not sure who else. I imagine it would be particularly helpful to people playing psytrance as you can be so precise about what's going into the mix....           "One nation under a groove".

There is a really good bonus mix CD with the excellent OMB album 'Flying over Tokyo'.

http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/aqa/aqa2cd001.html

It contains mixed versions of the tracks on the proper unmixed CD, along with a couple of other great OMB remixes.

So... you get the best of both worlds!

I think it would be great if more artists took the time to do stuff like this.

Agreed. But the expences of making 2 cd's of one released (one mixed, one unmixed) is for most a very expencive solution (i think?).

Yes, since Ableton mixes the tunes for them.
I don't mind trance "DJs" using software to mix tracks for them, as long as there are no traiwrecks in trance parties. I've witnessed a lot of those in my partying years.

Totally agree. But I meant Ableton would be particularly good for psytrance since it's such multi layered music i.e a lot of sounds, and this seems to be the main difficulty people have been citing when it comes to mixing psytrance.           "One nation under a groove".

Its just a kick man. Its not hard to mix two tunes together, especially the busiest tracks that happen to be the fastest ones as well.

because its simple- most people who actually buy trance seriously- are djs... they want the tracks to play, not to listen at home...

markets where its got large commercial base- mix cds do fine... but i personally wouldnt buy one- it just pissed me off not being able to play the tracks...

i love it when people simply things to that level... and mixing is just playing tracks one after the other, huh... in theory it sounds easy as that... in practice, well...           elementoftime.net
