it depends on how your definition of "dark" is.

-dark in opposition to bright in frequencies (lots of low frequencies, few highs)

or

-dark in opposition to light in atmosphere (happy/ euphorical/ dreamy VS morbid/ melancholic/ depressive/ frightening etc.)

you cant dance without the groove.
dont say things only cause you dont know how to dance.
dont listen to dance music and as far as i know psytrance is dance music..

oh, i actually love to dance and i think i am a pretty "good dancer"
but in my definition of psychedelic dance music i wonīt necessarily use the term "groovy" becaus pounding baselines and hammering beats with psychedelic fizzle on top and "arpeggio-fractal-melodies" arenīt really "groovy", or maybe they are, but a live drumer would laugh.
i think the core of 99% of psychedelic goatrance is mechanical and straight rythmic structure.
real groove is definitely not this assshake crap of most fluffy housy fullon, itīs psybreaks like "snake thing", joujouka, ect, funkopath etc.
and those mentioned geniuses make it really psychedelic, so even there i would interpret it as 50% groove/ 50% psychedelic

I think this a very important point... how we all have these debates about darkpsy when we dont even have a solid definition? When I think dark I am referring to mood/atmosphere (ie morbid, frightening, creepy etc). Trance that I consider dark would be stuff like Xenomorph, Cydonia, Dark Soho, stuff off Aurinko (esp the Catcher CD) and maybe Shift and some other Timecode stuff as well. If thats not what most people mean by dark then every conversation about dark psytrance I have ever had has been a non-communication

There are no genres or sub genres of audial sounds.Dark,Light,crazy,whatever.These are words and terms we try to use to describe what we feel when these sounds enter our being. This culture and these sounds and festivals are all waaaaaay too ahead of their time. All we can do is try to grasp onto and understand what this is all about, but in the end it will always be what it is.....infinite.
