I totally agree.
Most of the time me and my friends achieve that very specific feeling some call happiness while dancing to dark music.

maybe dark psy is not the perfect description of the genre.. but its there .. so live with it..

Q 1- who said psy trance music is about melodies ?
A 1- ?? GOA TRANCE
Q 2- you said you use to listen to so much techno and dance to it too, where are the melodies in techno ?
A 2- ?? Techno too had melodies those days but if i mention some examples you would not even know who i am talking about you would have been probably listening to the Verve!
And man i said nothing against dark trance cause i also like it when it's melodic so chill out and do not take it so personal!

and now to add to my views.......i dont think the roots of our culture is only based on music.....its much more then that.....its based on peoples mind sets....what the think....how we behave and so on......basically its based on PLUR......not only music......

A 1- Psy trance can have melodies, encadenated psychedelic noises, organic percussions, thumping basslines... goa has tracks that are pure acid lines and tribalistic sounds... it is not all melodies. Goa had music from ppl like technossomy, lumen, semsis, underhead that produced sometimes dark melodiless music.

A 2- Techno has melodies. But techno as music is only a tool for the DJ to create the actual music through mixing. As you may find ppl like Johannes Heil, Inigo Kennedy, blueline records and many more, have pretty intricate dissonant melodies in this loop based style of music.
I like all kinds of trance when the music is interesting and innovative. I love to play night so I usually play mostly dark music, but I also like to change moods and take ppl on a journey exploring different sounds.
Taking a stand against music created to stablish a mood, it sounds limiting. Also just liking on style of mood will make the set sound one dimensional and ultimately boring.
Good music is good music. Music that project abstraction, paints a canvas, tells a story and has enough power to keep the body moving |

In my opinion if someone have dedicated the time to create music it can’t be bad coz someone will like it, it’s all a mater of personal taste, at the last party I went to the dj played long dark set and I really suffered from it, the whole vibe was destroyed for me but I still sow PPL dancing like crazy and smiling meaning they liked it so whom are we to judge??????????
Verity is good it’s good to have different sound for different taste, if u don’t like it don’t listen to it. but try to understand and respect others taste that way PPL will respect yours .

i agree.
and we need a clearer situation, where people are well informed and make their party planing according to their taste.
who the fuck are those arrogant "partypeople" who complain about the music all the time.
it´s up to everyone of us to check what´s his/ her musical taste before attaining an event (and not, which drugs are at what party or shitty motivations like these...).
it´s like going to the cinema. you get your info beforehands, and then you just shut up and watch the movie and do not insult the filmmaker, the actors or the other guests just because you don´t like it...
this again is an indication that those people are selfish and egoed-out.

Its a shame that people connect the word "dark" to *evil* and *non spiritual in a goodway*. Why is that? Dark psy is not about that. People think Marilyn Manson worships the devil? As I said, to bad people compare all "dark" music to evilness. Think about..

all i can say is one morning at an intimate bluemoon party, dark nebula's music put me in a trancedental state, complete loss of ego, universal ONENESS ... it was just so deep and powerful, something i don't (for ME) can be acheived with most psy-trance out there
and i'm a more spiritual, more happy, open minded individual because of this experience
I LOVE DARK MUSIC !
(just as i love the sun how it is always shining !!)

heh the last months always I listen about "dark psy" trance style...ok two months ago I was in "dark psy" trance event and the only think I listened is some stupid sounds and the same typical bassline from fruity loops with C kick..xex no atmospheres,no emotions of fear as you said that this style cause you but just a crap noise!I can't say that thing dark(thing and not music..)When I hear about dark styles my mind goes to Tim Schouldt and his crew,x-dream,dark soho(I hope they will continuou producing their typical style and not the same as their last release "light in the dark") and not at parasense and the other artist like them  Off course with some small paper squares the things getting better,but why we have to use drugs to join the music we like?Quality music don't need drugs because it's the drug!So the "dark" style as you call it the only thing that gives to you is to destroy you!
Cheers forget the "darkness" to save your selves and be more groovy! |

Tasos_NOtrea, just got the dark soho album you were talkin about and scanned it quickly.
now i´m listening to it at the moment, and i personally would probably agree for about half of it.
but "alien´s cream" and "long way home" are pretty good, i think.
and those which are too soft or funky for me are good, also, i think.
but it will take more time to judge on it, and this is an indication for good quality.
1.the very crappy shit can be identified
2.the music you love too quickly often turns out to be low quality music (fast food)
and then there is music which you cannot understand immediately, but with my experience in this musical genre and the subgenres, i can preview if it´s really worth getting deeper into it.
so, please try be patient and not to judge too quickly, otherwise we´ll get even more of this superficial crap
- too few people with patience automatically leads to an overflow of superficial music which is hot one or two weeks and gets boring rapidly
and
groovy is, imo, not a genuine psychedelic category.
groovy means with shuffeled rythms, which is more a housy or "music predominantly 4 the body" thing.
otherwise, i totally agree with a lot you say.
sorry, no personal offense, just trying to have an interesting and honest discussion here

You are absolutelly true about dark soho man!It was an example to characterize the dark style that I know.As for the quality "2.the music you love too quickly often turns out to be low quality music (fast food)" I have noticed that from many artists and even now I am just listening the solar drums album from Meller and I think is amazing!But I will make an experiment ,after 2-3 weeks maybe it will be boring for me!
