I won't buy anything for 85nis. Nothing at all. 40-50 nis is better. My house is filled with original cd's I legally bought for 40-50 nis. Now don't give me this shit that the labels and the artists can't make any money if they lower the prices. I don't see Phonokol going bankrupt because that 90% of their cd's are 39 nis. The only thing that prevents me from downloading music is my 31.2k connection.

I want to buy cd's. I can't buy cd's because of their high prices. Do the thinking for yourselves...

well spoken mike.
if u downlaod music instead of buying it i do belive its called stealing. but dont you think that the labels and the record store steals from us?? 90 nis for a cd is a rip-off.
once i bought original cd's when the price was 40nis. but now now way ill buy them. sorry for all the artists how dont make money for their music it shouldnt be that way. the artists are working hard on their music but i think they are the ones how should make the labels and stores to lower the prices for the people how are paying.

what do u ppl know about rip-offs? what do u know about producing music for a living?

So I dont wanna pay 3.85 NIS for a litre of gasoline, I think its a rip-off, so if I go and plug a hose to a public gas station at 4:00AM and take 50 litres without paying its not stealing?

sorry ppl, U forget your selves. you dont determine the prices in the market, nor do you even know the reasons for these prices - and there are reasons, believe me - its not cheap to produce a CD, be it a compilation or an artist album, and many ppl have to live off the income - the artist, label producers, cover artist, sound engeneer, printing and distribution company - all these factors make producing a CD/record an expensive thing (although I agree that several projects are cheaper than others...). and another thing: work on a CD can take between 6 months to a year, and the income has to cover the expences of this time period.

But that doesnt matter - trance is not a profitable bizz, since its is quite small - many ppl like trance parties, but not so many ppl actualy buy the music (since its not simple, easy-listening music and also because of the MD/DAT culture that was developed back in Goa days), and so its almost impossible to live only from trance.

just for general knowledge:
average sales of a rock/pop album starts from 10000 copies (and these are low figures)
high sales of a trance album are 4500-5000 copies(!) - and that's rare.
so make the calculations yourselves. I dont recomend anyone to try and live from this ungrateful scene, since you will likely starve to death. by ripping CDs you kill the music you like so much. its just not profitable to make it, and ppl have to eat.

think about it.
you dont determine the prices in the market,
Ok. But as a customer I have the right to decide if I want to pay a specific price in order to buy something. If I think that the price is too high I don't buy. The second option (stealing) is not relevant here, because there are different opinions about it. Some steal, some don't because of their moral or whatever. But most of the people don't buy the cd's because of high prices, not because of "why buy it when I can get it for free?". I believe there are very few people who want everything for free, and they are actually willing to pay but for a fair price.

BTW - The gas station example is a good one! :-)

well friend, thats why they call pop music "music for the messes" alright?
god... you think that sells alot? just check how much (c)rap sells...

and i dont burn for myself, i burn for others... so in a way, im just part evil :)

at any rate, trance isnt a profitable biz... and thats GOOD, if it WAS profitble, it would prolly end up because of marketing, and will probably degrade into... well, pop trance possibly :)

eyal barkan... need i to say more? ;)

personaly im not good, or bad... i burn, sometimes(though not alot), but, i also acully BUY... in music, i only have 1 burnt cd, out o, i believe, 25 cds, whereas in, say, computer programs... well lets just say im H3xx0r 3|i+3! :P

basicly, if you respect the artist, and want to see him get bigger, and produces more stuff... dont burn, buy... you're practicly paying him to make you music :P

I just wanted to add that i myself as a soldier {that is 400 NIS per month salary} do purchase original cds but mainly after i download some of the tracks from the net or BURN MP3's from friends IF IT'S GOOD i am buying it, if it's not i just burn it on a 3 NIS blank cd. I knew anyway that i wouldn't buy the original cd. The bottom line when i hear something good on MP3 i go to the store and buy the original. And i did it lots of times.
Some ppl forget that there's a flipside to the incommersiality of the psy trance scene. A lot of original cds i buy tend to get scratched faster than original cds buy some mainstream artist i have.
I have a Prodigy single from 1992 and it looks much better than Cosmosis album i bought last year, and it's not because overuse.

people have allways burned music -well yes it was coil tape or whatever nothing is changed.
90NIS is very much money for a cd.
Tal and Leo talking here will not change nothing i bet that like 90% and more of the people here in this forum burn cds like hell, and they will keep doing it until the something will happen- someone will stop them somehow or the small labels will crash down simple as DAT.
