.. except if u listen to click/ambient stuff from
Pole
who created their first sound completely around
this fx:kit that had a minor assembly mistake,
which caused it to click every now and when
(not really a computer but still a piece of
factory-made-equipment).

instead of taking it back for repairs,
Pole decided to keep the gear WITH the error
and made some sweet ambi-dambi albums with it!

.. cant find it right now, but there's an interview
with Pole online somewhere, where they talk about this ..

Hand made instrument, factory made instrument, more soul&personality, less soul&personality, I really don't get it.
So me, being quite unmusicalic, hammering away on a handmade guitar sound more soulful than somebody, who has practised the guitar for years, playing on a factory made one?

I say it again: an instrument is a tool!

And Ulf, if you still disagree with that, just look in your dictionary:
instrument= latin for tool
musical instrument= musical tool

As the old saying goes: It's a bad craftsman blaming the tools!

Computer is the best instrument, at least for me

And don't say it isn't a instrument, read what pointy wrote. He is absolutly right.

And I can't really see the computer as an instrument, more of a "tool". To much automation if you ask me. Besides, an instrument is usually handmade art (like the Les Paul I got in my knee right now ) in which someone put their soul in. You will notice this if you play it, and compare it to some machine-made crap-instrument made in korea. A computer is a pile of silicon-based circuits with loads of compiled software, that will look exactly the same on your neighbours computer (as I doubt that there are two identically made Les Paul guitars)

Every copy of your track would be indentical, and therefore not have soul, whatever equipment or maybe even talent you have.
What a ridicolus definition of soul.

And I wonder how much software a person stating something like that written.
I can tell you that to my experience, programming good applications require very much dedication, and thats means putting in your soul into a project.
Same wheather you working with pieces of wood for a guitar or pieces of code for a VST'i.

I use the computer as my instrument and for developing applications....and I don't need anyone trying to tell me that what I do is not 'real' or has no 'soul'. And it kind of pisses me off... ...thats why I go on about this.
Just use your virtous guitar skills, and if it's such a great advantage people will recognise it. But going around trying to tell people that what you do is better because of the tools you use is quite out.

Think about it Ulf.....maybe the size of a man is not measured by his gear....but by his ability to use it...
