i think this should answer your question ChoBo! i make music for ME, it's my way to express what's up in my soul... just like a diary.. and i'm not a "psy producer"...my soul is bigger then that!!

one must look to respect what is made from the artists.....b cos its easier to critisize than appreciating the good music which is around to ENJOY.......its not that one is left with no choice....there is shit loads of new, old, semi old stuff which if *one* wants will definately make him smile....
but critisizing some one;s talent n talking about being artistic make a few among;s us feel *better*
its a world of music...... you are free to choose what you like n have a ball, rather then demeaning somebody;s work.

chobo man...you're not paying atention
1st - i'm not dissing anyone here, i said no names..(if the hat fits in anyones head...not my problem mate )
2nd - of course there's a lot of good and original music out there, but we are NOT talkin about that, we're talking about "artists" with lack of criativitie!!
3rd - as i said, my music is mine and for me only, i don't need you to judge my music.... and i never said my music was better then anyone's..I just said that if you want to be an artist »» BE CREATIVE...(i'm no artist, and don't wanna be)
peace..

ok, I'm confused.
you say you're not dissing anyone because you dont give names - so it means you're not? specially when you say we all know who you're talking about?

second, you complain about too many imitators, while saying "of course there's a lot of original music out there" - so decide, is there a problem with a few imitators and a lot of original music OR many imitators and too few originals?

and whatever the answer is, here's another point:
You say you're not an artist (and dont wanna be), yet you give instructions for others how to be one ("...just said that if you want to be an artist >> >> BE CREATIVE...") - man get off the tree you think you're on (or whatever you're on..), if you dont like certain type of music just skip it and let the people who do it ('artists') kick 10,000 other people who happen to like it.

A

P.S
I've heard so many 'creative' underground artists who think they're creative but constantly immitate other underground artists - is that better?           auspexx@compact-records.com

To me the main thing is how inspired a track sounds, and if has a lot of party energy to give.
I think sometimes it is not a lack of creativity that is the problem, but rather the feeling that every sound or melody in your track has to be unique that makes it sound boring.

I love to listen to well performed ethnic music where you many times have melodies and rythms that been used for thousands of years, and still rocks. That makes worrying if about if that lead sounds a bit like some track from 96 a bit silly in perspective.

Of course it's just as boring when someone try to just copy another artist sound, and maybe more common. The main point is don't care weather if it does or doesn't sound like someone else.
As long as the producer has fun and goes with the flow ppl will hear and appreciate that......at least I do.

a lot of gripes...!
I think that to really create a new sound in this music is really very very hard - it has almost all been done before. You are stuck with that 4 kick beat which can be blended and squashed so many ways but to make it sound really mad is a trick only a few possess...
I also agree with helen - the constant demand for new sounds is strange - stick on some old stuff and forget always having to own the 'new' tunes, which can often suck IMO!

I think helen is on point. What style of art doesn't copy something? It also pisses me off when people want to bitch about what other's are creating on a public message board when if they don’t like how something sounds they should just do it themselves and perhaps earn some damn respect for what the artists do. If you can’t get it done right then do it yourself. Bitching about it will get you nowhere.

To the person who started this thread: paint is so passé stop copying all the real "artists" that are using paint to make art. hahah

I think it's not the point...
I don't think the starter of this thread said anything about 'copying' as in term of 'stop get inspiration from listening to others'.

It's clear to see that alot of music today sounds the same - not 'inspired by' but 'identitcal madness'. I don't believe there is one person here that didn't notice it. And this is what the thread about. (imho)

I think this post have been too much munched on.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

'identical madness'???

Some songs seem to sound identical, but i think you haven't listen attententiv enough.

I have never heard songs that were in anypoint 'identical'.
