<quote> Such topics really piss me off .
I'm fed up with all this -- "if you listen to trance u must use drugs' or 'trancers are junkies' or -- 'artists who make music with the influence of drugs make better music' or 'without drugs you can't feel the music and you can't actually enjoy it' <quote>

Hmmm... I didnt say you have to use drugs if you listen to trance, and I didnt say that artists that use drugs make better music, I also didnt say you have to use drugs to feel the music.
If you are so fed up with the drug topic, and those threads bother you so much - no one is forcing you to read it.

Gilad, I belive that psychodelic drugs ARE mind opening but it doesnt mean that an artist needs to take psychodelics to make the psychodelic sound.
Some people have it and some people dont... (and then they use drugs )
          Its the vibe that matters.

I got no problem with that. Let them do anything that will make them and their music and as a consequence will make us happy. But everything must be in proportions, I'd not like to see the artist getting strong illusions right during playing his set and trying to run away or to hide somewhere (even under the table) in the middle of the party.           Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Never said you were the one to say it. Only said it's annoying, the way people associate psytrance with drugs.
I cannot say it's not true, because people do, and you are one of many examples of that.
And I reply because I do have a decision about this subject, and I think I should share it with other and I do so.
And another thing is that I'm not FED UP with it, it's not as if every second thread here is about such thoughts. It just annoys me, that's it.

cheers.

I don't like topic like this, but part of me says that their is no link between drugs and producing music, the only problem is that you may work slower and be confused will to get the equipament working. but on the other hand depending on the trip you can find inspiration in something and then develop it, I reckon that if you are high on something you shouldn't hit the hardware you should get your ideas on paper and then when you sober up, try to develop those ideas, that is if it makes sense           "Great things are only possible with outrageous requests." And what happened to many of these brilliant artists? Many went down the drain... They almost all started on "mindexpanding drugs". Hendriks got hoocked on dope and died as a result of it womiting in his sleep on sleeping pills and dope.
Jim Morission from The Doors is another example of a dopehead dying as a result of abuse and what about Janis Joblin, Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley and many many more? They all died from drug abuse... I am sure the world of music would have been much richer today if they hadn't died !!!!

Oh by the way as far as I know Motzart did not do drugs and he's properly the biggest genious of them all !!! I rest my case !

Kaz has a point here. You have to distinguish getting inspiration from drugs and making the music while on drugs.
Getting inspiration from drug is something I'm sure many artists did, not only in trance but also other genres.
About making the music, how can you operate a computer or synths when you can't even talk normally? Let alone hear the sound (which has to be exact) when all of your perception is distorted.

Hemmingway was a well known Absinthe lover (which contains not only alcohol as an intoxicating element, but wormwood as well).

I think that in order to properly understand the influence of psychedelics on the trance world, you should listen to the old acid music (which is by definition inspired by LSD). A lot of the progressive techniques used nowadays in trance were already there in the 80s and early 90s, not just those fat 303 basslines in early goa music. A lot of the greater musicians of our time like Aphex Twin, Plastikman, Shpongle and other electronic pioneers have more than just tried drugs once or twice. A Brave New World's first part was made after an intense mescaline trip of Aldous Huxley (who also wrote Doors of Perception), and I can bring a lot more examples of admitted influences of drugs on the arts. Is this connected with their creation? Maybe. Is it a source of inspiration for them? All of them have admitted that much. Did it make them better artists? I don't think anyone can answer that. I'm sure a lot of terrible artists did a lot of drugs too, and remained terrible artists.

What we're talking here is purely hypothetical, as there aren't any studies that I know of connecting between drug usage and quality of artistic creation. People say one thing or another, but it's all guesswork really.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

i think it really sucks
it blocks the artists point of view on he's sound and also spoiles the inspiration , im not talking the psychedelic inspiration.
im talking about the true inspiration and feelings.

it sucks !!!
its music
artists suppose to do music , not drugz !
and especially not both of them...           ..:: Let the MUSIC guide u in a world of COLOR ::..
