other recent news from UK squat parties..

a few weeks ago 1200 people at a seven sisters squat - ONE toilet - result = people defacating on the floor

this last weekend police arrive and close down a squat party after 2 hours with rumours of armed police in attendance - since when has the hippy scene needed to be controled by armed police?

…and this is perhaps going to be a more frequent occurrence given promoter’s lack of respect for basic human amenities.
The parties I was involved with, not so long ago, we had some very good people working on the door who knew what kind of people to stop coming in and also they were very good at talking with the police to assure them everybody was having a safe time and we were.
This isn’t happening to such a responsible degree anymore and as a result the police are getting more suspicious and will start sniffing around these events with more intent to shut them down.
Either that or tooled up kids will start turning up and mug everybody on site, just like what happened to techno squats a few years back – that was enough to stop these organisers doing squat parties on a regular basis so they moved to doing more club events…..but because of the smoking ban we won’t be partying in clubs anymore?

This isn’t the end of the club scene because venues across the UK are well aware of the impact the smoking ban will have on their business and that’s why promoters have to start looking for venues that incorporate an outdoor space where people can go and have a chuff with tables/chairs/umbrellas/outdoor heaters/marquees - it really isn’t going to be as bad as some people make out. But some venues with no outdoors will have to do sneakys or face certain death.

fuck it all, that's what i say...all the best parties i ever went to were small, private, word of mouth. now they are all big, musically narrow minded and held in soul-less venues. since tyssen st closed i pretty much stopped going to club parties unless there was something really special or i was playing, like the last twisted parties. now as a rule if i get given a flyer for something i don't go...small, private, in a field, barn or a forest or a special location in the city...where you know most people, these are the special parties...and the "hoodies" selling their wares, surely they are as essential as the dj playing his latest unrlsd killas no? sad but true, unless you get high on life, jesus, shiva whatever and 12 hours of 16th note basslines...
