We're going back to warehouse parties now, not squats.
It's not about money.
It's about having fun, for free. If we didn't charge �10 a head, we'd turn the music off at 3AM and pass a bucket about for donations to COVER the cost of putting the event on, comprende? It's free for as much as you would like to put into it
SO charging a tenner makes people happier when the music isn't turned off for the donate cycle
Also, the current state of affairs in the UK means that WHEN a bucket is passed about to help with the cost of putting on an event, someone runs off with it

No, that's not the "current state of affairs in the UK", squat merchant.. that's the type of crowd these squat parties attract.. thieves, ketamine-heads (that drug is a SERIOUS problem in this country - so un-psychedelic and yet everyone does it. pure filth.) and a pinch of aggressive people.
Most of the squats have way too many irresponsibly fucked drug-abusers. Nothing to defend really.

well done squat merchant you yourself have just validated what everyone has been saying - S Q U A T S very much attract the wrong people and in doing have just put a big hole through your own arguement
other recent news from UK squat parties..
a few weeks ago 1200 people at a seven sisters squat - ONE toilet - result = people defacating on the floor
this last weekend police arrive and close down a squat party after 2 hours with rumours of armed police in attendance - since when has the hippy scene needed to be controled by armed police?
c'mon guys this is about as far removed from the ethos of psy-trance as it possibly could be

I wasn't arguing anything. Perhaps my name is misleading, I won't go near inner city squats, in fact, I use squats in rural areas to park my bus up. We put parties on in warehouses and outdoors. Never more that 500 people.
The way you are talking about people pooing on the floor revolts me and I would never have anything to do with such a crap (scuse the pun) place.
Even at a nice outdoor party, passing a bucket round is not a good idea as this is 2007, not 1980 bore. And just occasionally, when someone is in charge of walking around with said donation bucket they get whacked and robbed. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with psy trance or PLUR - it has everything to do with the current state of the UK. |

I would like to apologies to anyone who took offence from my previous posts.
The subject matter is faily emotive. We are all human, with our own faults.
So in hindsight perhaps my own responses were somewhat ott, inappropriate, and maybe i should have kept my views to myself.
However, if we can't recognise the problems and the mistakes being made, than how are we to learn, and move forward?

Mike, start making parties again. But this time round, make sure you involve all orgs in the UK. This is the only way forward. If we stick together and make monthly parties rather than SO many crap ones things might just start to be well organised and fun again |

Communication between orgs of course. Some orgs have better deco that others, whereas others have funktion 1 or opus at their disposal. Get it together and we can make psy trance look good again
That is IF you want it to look good again in the UK
And to do that, we have to start making proper parties at the Academy again and invest alot of cash into it.
24hr parties, without crap bang bang acts at 8AM, trippy stuff
There is a market out there for the 24hr technicolour dream show. Just make it so alot of other orgs are allowed in and the deco becomes more an art show rather than just some crap drapes
I'd much rather have Hawkwind headlining at 6AM then maybe Daevid Allen

All you want is money, which is exactly why you (yes you) have broken the UK scene with your money grubbing 3 good acts parties
