everyone is creative, having talent is something else, talented artists will always get their music sold (if they act properly, promote them selves & so on, find the audience), so if you are not making a living with your music, perhaps it's time to think if you really have the talent..
what am I saying? something that's been said like 10 times already in this thread.. there are people who will never buy anything, some who download music and buy the stuff they like, and some who only buy.. I don't think Simon Posford or Infected Mushroom or GMS have any trouble making their living, thus it's their music that is shared and traded the most online.. but they've found their loyal fans, who no matter what, will support them, and buy their albums.. it's because they all have created something unique, showed talent that others don't have (all though I really don't see any talent behind gms for example, but some sure seem to find it)..
SO.. don't bitch, create something unique & special and make your living, or get a new job..
sad but true.. nothing personal..

nova tekk , flying rhino, mdma & the list goes on & on....
& those who still exist are happy if they sells 3000-4000 cd's.
i'm not saying it out of arrogance but, you dont know what it takes to create quality music .
for me trance scene is that when the people ,the music , the artists & the nature are one unit & it was us against the world , we actualy belived that we could make a differance ...
when a friend throw a hat party ppl gave from the buttom of thier hart & pockets because they carred , because it was thier way to say thank u & becuase they knew that this friend would not think twice b 4 he will throw the next party !
look i know that people will keep download music from the internet ,but i hope that will make some people to think twice b 4 they do it
buttom line , if you care for somthing support it !

well that was 2 years ago.. I'm sure it has sold a few thousands more..
and I bet the second album sold even more.. maybe not 50 000 but sure a lot more than 5000 ..

yes sure more than 5000 but it's very rare that a artist sell more than 2000 copies in this scene my friend.
And you also know that a positive press release is better than anegative.... You should not believe everything the labels tell you.... It's just PR to push sales....
As far as I know the sales are closer to 10.000 than to 30.000. And the artists/bands that sell around 10.000 copies can be counted on one hand !!! |

Very interesting this.. more than thousand entrees and more than 6 pages to see why stealing music is ok.
Especially to see all the lamers that start counting all the other shit that going on the net - what does it have to do with the stealing of my music?
Let's see: If I, BLT, have an unaouthorised copy of certain movie ( for instance ) then everyone has all the rights to d/l and steal all music I make? Is it a known algorythm that I just missed, or kind of a new mathematics equation???
I really don't like my tone here, but to all the dumb asses that d/l and make all the unreleased musik traded + releasing the artist's albums on the net even b4 they are released - I KNOW that there is nothing I can do to prevent it - so keep on and hopefully one day you will be sorry for doing that.. BUT PLEASE at least have the DECENCY to SHUT UP and do it quietly!!!

Well respect is a wrong word.... If you sell 2 Cd's then 2 persons respect you and like your music. There's not diffence there.. It's about taste and drugs !!!
The reason why bands such as Infected and Simon have gained the sales they have is because this scene is made up by drugs...sadly though !!!
If I wanted to..and mark my word "IF" I could start a project and call it LSD and make some music that are fast with deep basses and fluffy hook lines and I will bet my old hat that I could sell just as well as Infected... It's not about quality..it's about appealing to the drugheads on the floor. But of course this is my own opinion !
A good example is when Jean Borelli and I released Sheyba - "Trance Africa Express" - the track with the elephants... We did the track as a joke to copy that times big name Transwave and the X-file (monkey mix) - no offense guys..just for fun  . And what happened? Our track became the most played and sold track in 1997..... So you see it's nothing to do with quality...it's all to do with feeding cliché's to the masses
I am sure many people get angry when I critisise the big names but sorry in my opinion the make factory music and just copy eachother over and over again.
In my opinion the true talents are the ones that dare to break out and do something differnet..such as Simon...he is 1.000.000 times more creative and tallented that Infected, GMS, Alien Project and the rest of the "Big names".

if it's about money, why don't you start another project, call it say.. "Ego Project" and don't let anyone know that you are behind it.. make it commercial like GMS and get money, and then you can concentrate on your "artistic side" again.. with no worries since your commercial project gives you the funds..

Because it's not my thing... I only want to release music I like to make...Why should I sit down and make music that i think is bad? And by the way you know very well that if your project get popular you are preassured into exploding that project with many life gigs, promotion tours ect. ect. ..It's simply a demand in your contract..If you don't say yes no label will release you !!!
I like to be me and make what I think is right to me.... And believe me I do not want to copy another band just to make some money... I think i am talented enough to have my own unique style ! I know I have a uniques style that no one else have.
I think you missunderstand me a bit here.. I have never said that I need to make tons of money out of my music.... I do not want to be a big star and I don't care if I am rich or not..... All I am saying is that it's wrong to steal my music and not pay for it.

i agree with traveler, make house project .
house scene pay GOOD money and sells TONS of cd's and vinyls,and defenetly do that if u say that psytrance have nothing to do with drugs, is bulshit
and Elysium IF and i mark the word IF u would make music like Simon i would buy u'r cd
without the internet i dono how many ppl would know Elysium Project or BLT
and yes i build my own studio step by step
and yes i dont aks noone to pay for it
and yes i share my music to all
and yes i play dj sets for free
and yes i dont want to release a shit to the "market"
and sure that i wont say no to any label that maybe in the future will want to release it but yet i wont give a shit about their busines,its extra money
if music is what u love u do it anyway nomather what

Hey Chi,if you really like music ,buy it because when you make music you must have many expensive equipments and if anybody buy your music you can't pay for new equipments.
But you can download track on mp3 ,and if you like it ,buy it !!!This is what i do because mp3 don't have really good quality sound !!

I don't know if i really understand what you say. You say that GMS has any talent,why they sold so many tracks.Do you know when they have begining to make music ?I think you was not born ?Are you making music ?
