this summer my wife accidently pushed play=pause when she took the headphones, and cd started to skip, luckyly track was just coming to build up and all the ppl thinked that it was part of the build up and i lett it be and every one went nuts then play again and to real build up... so in the end it turned out to be really cool trick           http://www.myspace.com/polly_potb

the first time i played i was maybe three tracks into my set and was cuing the next track with my headphones on with my eyes on the pitch slide..and all of a sudden i could feel that everyone stopped dancing ,i still did nt really look up on the floor and kept trying to cue the new track with the one that was playing ..then a friend came over to the dj table/booth and i realized he is trying to say something ,and when i finally took the headphone out there was like.. pin drop silence ...

someone had tripped over the out cable from the mixer to the speakers and completely cut off the sound for more than a minute till i realized ..

luckily it was all just freinds and they knew it was my first time ...
we took another 5 mins to figure out the problem and fix it ...then the party went on quite well..

but i learned my lesson : always keep looking at the crowd to see if they r still dancing....

this is one of the best topics ever xDDDDDD

once i was playing pre made noobie live act(free regional party ahah) just midiing around over it and the energy generator was behind me and the organizer went there to check gas remaining but did it with a lighter... stupid ideia ever... the generator started spitting fire ahaha and he turned it off immeadetly.... almost blowing up the party and mby killing 1 or 2 :SSS

hummm yeah, press play in the wrong deck xDDD take off highs thinking its lows xDDD
starting to enjoy music so much that forgot to pass to next 1 xD
volume out playing track thinking its the ending one...

well, i dont have that much experience to make many mistakes... 4 lamme live acts and 5 dj sets isnt that much... so i will come up with more in the future, unfortunatly xDDD
          I want a spare brain.... or 2.

ok time to revive this thread.

I once accidentally put a 16th delay as a send on one of my master channels, resulting in mad slapbacks and I was thinking to myself "wtf is it with this bad monitors, it's bouncing all over the place".

Took me 2-3 minutes to straighten it all out because the send was only at a few % wet so it wasn't that bad. But lesson learned

Lets see, there was one instance, it was my very first "dj"set at a friends house, luckily not a big party or anything, I was happily beatmatching 2 tracks when someone tapped my shoulder and asked if I could turn on the music now please, I realized that both mix fader were all the way down.... and the headphone fader was up... oooops

Fuck I remember this time I was just take the CD out to change it and in that moment the other CD (the only one in at the moment ) stop playing ...and o shit that was embarrassing .....

Leasson :Clean my CDs before use it .....           Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.

Lets update my worst moments with one more...
I was in germany playing suomi style set and all of you who has mixed suomi knows that its quite hard to find kick and bassline... so like whole 2h set i was wondering why i just cant get beats matched and it seems to go trainwrekking all the time, so i just thought i was offbeat or something and used corection on every mix that i made. I got my set thru pretty good in terms of beat mixing but it was hell of work.
Next we played our usual set with miazu and as mixing this kind of stuff comes from the backbone i instantly noticed that cd-players just didnt keep the adjusted speed, we also got throuht that set pretty well with only few noticable trainwrecks, but some of the other dj's had really bad time with the players, every mix trainwrekking....

so what u learn from this... never relay anything but your ears and LEARN to make corections on the fly           http://www.myspace.com/polly_potb

At a small outdoor camping event I had already played twice for a number of hours and was going to play for another hour or so until we left. Spent a good 15 minutes setting all my stuff up again, double checking this and that.

I can hear the music through my headphones just fine on cue, I can see the 1st tracks volume levels are good too. So, I trigger my first track which has an ambient intro for ~45 seconds or so, and I just start creeping the mixers line volume for a nice smooth mix.

No sound from my system. The prior song ends, silence. I activate cue, I can hear it.

Shit! I double check all my cords...check the mixer?!? o.O I say "it's not my equipment, I can hear it through cue just fine..."

I have someone else come up and help me check stuff...

3 minutes later, I realize that all my decks were routed to 'sends only' - So I could totally cue and everything...but the audio would never go to the master channel.

Mhm. Felt dumb. EXTREMELY happy that that particular error happened with maybe 8 people there and not a couple hundred

Well, i was in Holland, playing on a party,
and i was waiting for my turn.

Then the dj that was playing a succesfull set, told me that
he wanted to play another tune, then it was my turn.
So i took my time, but suddenly i realised that i
didn't get his words, and that i had to play the next tune, and that 30 seconds were left.
So i got my cd case, took the right one (at least) and tried to insert
the cd into the cdj, which was the wrong one, that was still playing!!!

Basically the cd crashed into a crzxcxzygckbckc noise, and then it stopped.

That was how the 3 hrs djset before mine ended...

You can imagine how ashamed i've been when i started to play..

Dj Pim.. if you read this: i'm still VERY sorry..

I was playing at noon in the biggest festival we had here and some other DJ was too drunk, got on the stage, ejected my CD playing, unplugged my speakers and wanted to start a fight...never got to know why (he couldn't talk clearly) but that was a hell of a situation.

Ok, this thread just reminded me of a funny incident that happened just over a year ago now.

It was october time, and we were playing a halloween Squat party in london. The party was great. Lots of people and a good vibe . We were keeping a eye on our set time and enjoying music that was happening around the party on the different stages. It was fine, we had lots of time before we played.
Then looking at the time it appeared we had lost an hour and we had 5 minutes to set up our live set! Automatic time update saved the day! This was in fact the case as the clocks had gone back that evening.
We ran through the party collected the gear and got to the stage as quickly as possible. Setting up in record time, the soundcard was displaying the red light of , so after resetting the card the DJ told me we had 1 minute left. Arghh!
Signal busted though into the mixer with 20 seconds to go. The set went great apart from someone on the dancefloor falling on top of my launchpad and triggering a track that was to be played allot later in the set!
Not really a failure on stage but it was very close to being so!

I accidentally the pitch slider with my hoodie's sleeve without noticing it then mixed the track in and it sounded like shit.

I reacted and corrected the pitch which sounded weird... i was so ashamed.

i have a pretty bad one. it was really dark, the booth had 0 illumination and i had to use my cell to figure out what cds i had in my case. so after playing for the agreed 2 hours, and the other dj kept telling me to keep playing (i didn't get any extra pay), so i did, but i got stressed out, chose the wrong cd... wound up using a bluetech cd after some massive fullon stuff....           -Soultech/Stampgevaar Records, Parampara Recs
