I don't want to start a fight here but...what's the deal with this label?...they license tracks from all the other labels and maybe throw in one or two unreleased tracks and write GOA on the compilation in the biggest possible font they can find....and I presume that they get more money from their releases then any other label coz it says GOA, and I think anyone can say that that isn't goa trance on the compilation at all...well I think these kind of compilations should be banned anyway...

As I see it, they're pretty close to the legendary Goa Head and Destination Goa series - offering some of the biggest "hits" on the scene at the moment.

I've never bought one of the YSE compilations, but judging by the tracklists it looks like they're worth the money. Perhaps not for the most hardcore fans of the genre, who have all of the tracks already though.

On most of the CD's there's also tracks previously unreleased on CD, so that's a plus too for those who don't have Vinyl.

Perhaps it's commercial releases, but is it really that bad? If you don't like the idea, don't buy the CD's - but for the "newbie" people on the scene I think it's great to have releases like these. It's a jungle to keep track of all new releases, but here they get a taster of the biggest tracks at the moments, and hopefully they go out and buy some more, go to parties etc.

- Some of my first psytrance buys where Goa Head and Destination Goa compilations btw.

Concerning the name; Who cares? Perhaps it's a bit easy to label it as Goa, but still: There's a lot of people out there who haven't heard of full on, progressive psytrance, minimalistic, techtrance etc - but where the name "Goa" perhaps ring a bell.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I'm with pr0fane.... many friends of I don't take the time to explore the scene around, because that they don't especially listen to Psytrance out of the Parties, others don't have internet... things like that..

So the "Goa Heads", or "Destination", or "Distance to Goa", or "Global Psychedelic Trance" are a goOd formula for them..

Same same about the name : IT IS ONLY ON THIS FORUM that I've seen freakers raging about sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-genres of Psychedelic Trance..... With my friends, I mean, without the Internet influence we used to speak about "Goa" because it is a gOod sum up of all this music...

THEN here in France, speaking about "Trance" is immediately assimilated by the people as the Mainstream Trance (Mauro Picotto, Dj Energy, and all the others). So I use to speak about -Goa-.

The words keeps something.... special.. Unique !!

Cheers !           .

YSE has been releasing exclusive tracks and most are quality compilations.

The marketings questionable but musically I think the compilations deserve to live...           Within this timeless gathering,

lost from conscious memory,
but visible in trance!

I'm with you Dolva.
I just saw those covers from the new compilation of YSE and I was very annoyed by the thought, that a track of Vibrasphere or Fatali are labeled as GOA with such big words.

ban those compils.
those are rereleases anyway.

These licensed compilations are keeping some artists and labels alive. They also at times contain a bigger percentage of good quality tracks than your average compilation. For people who buy few CDs a year just for listening to the music and not to collect all the possible tracks around, it's a pretty good deal.
It's just a different side of the music industry.
Names and covers are quite silly, I agree.           ---------------------------------------------

GOA 3 (2003 YSE022CD) has some really good tracks on it..
Which is consistent with some of the first releases they put out since 2001 (I think).. e.g Nerve - Channel 59 is on Yellow Sunshine Explosion 1 mixed by DJ Bim (2001 YSE001CD) which as far as I know only came out on 12" .. I liked it more than the 2002 RMX..

If you're just into good tracks they make a good buy .. fan/collector will have a more defined vision of a good purchase with the incentive that they do license the odd hard to find remix..

Well, YSE and Millennium recs are one example of Labels that are doing an amazing work, spreading Trance Music, imho.
Everybody speaks about the Goa compilations but it's funny that i bought a few weeks ago, already one of my favorites Double Compilations concerning Ambient, named "Shanti Bar" which is really really beautiful.
And if someone search a bit, will find very interesting stuff there.
Different Compilations from different styles and some albums that worth to try.
About the names & Covers, they choose and who cares so much with it, since the material is good
A few time later we are already identifying the music when we mention the names.
The names are the music itself.
Anyway, personally, i like some Covers & some names (some music:).

Also, since i knew that one of the Artists that i follow since the beginning (Alex Ligowski) worked there after left NovaTekk, i keep an eye on this Label because i was collecting his Double Compilations especially the Pulse Collection, which is an amazing serie and i consider Alex a very good Compiler with a lot of experience & knowdlegde in Trance / Electronic music in order to make & support all those double Compilations.

Together with Yankovich my favorites Compilers but that's another story (for another Thread:).

Alex Ligowski, after some cooperations with Element, is also now producing music with 2 tracks at the moment on different Compilations and all i can say is:

Different styles but both spectacular tracks, without a doubt.

Waiting for an album, asap           - BEing mySELF

dont see the problem. those compils are meant for ppl that are new to the scene, who first check out what different stuff they can get. sooner or later, every goahead/GOA buyer will buy the albums from artists featured on the compil.

so just dont buy them if u dont need them, but there are surely newbies that enjoy these ones extensive.

Well, you have there a lot of stuff, you have choice, some things you can't like but some you may do.

For instance, i'm not trying those YSE Goa Compilations even because there are a lot coming out, and i'm listening other kind of stuff but i already got 4/5 excellent albums and 2/3 excellent compilations, in 4/5 months.

Nothing bad, you just have to explore a bit, if you wish.

If you don't like, simply ignore.

Now, a opinion saying to ban some compils just because someone don't like is the same than me to say to ban some post just because i don't like.

It's not fair, imho !

I dunno, I was kinds flattered to see Ei Enää Nenää closing the second YSE CD...I think that its a groovy thing to have 'Top of the Pops' releases for ppl who r not completely immeresed in the music. These coompilations offer a broad summary of what's happening in the psy-trance scene, they give a 'surface listener' a good chance to hear music from may labels and get a picture of who are the current artists who lead the scene (excluding mui...I'm not a producing artist...)

well I still think they should be closed down...If I didn't know anything about this scene I would still rather want one good balanced compilation with a nice story, concept and a nice cover than a..."best of" one with a crappy cover and no concept whatsoever           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

Yes, same here, Anakoluth
Especially Tantrance, Goa-Head & Pulse Compilations were my first tool, for start looking for the albums from the Artists that impressed me the most and that's when i realized that, excluding a few examples, the best tracks of each album were picked on any of those compils.
So, to avoid negative surprises, best idea was collecting those 3 series and get a panoramic view of the best tracks of each season and try other stuff in other musical fields.
And the first CD that really blew me up was Pulse 9 with a good selection and a perfect sequence of amazing tracks and one of my sacred compils

Concerning YSE compilations (or any other) if i don't like, don't hurt me at all if they coming out and personally, as i love Trance music, i enjoy to see Artists working & lots of Trance stuff coming out, providing a lot of choice.

Why not
