Yellow Sunshine seems to pick pretty good tracks to release on the best of CDs. If they picked only the most commercial stuff, I'd probably agree with Dovla, but their taste seems pretty wide-ranging, and a good representation of what's going on with the genre as a whole. Maybe not as much dark psy as there could be, but then, dark psy is an acquired taste.

I like them more than a lot of the other labels out there, actually..

The psy elite has spoken, how dare YSE put a name Goa to a compilation with psychedelic trance tracks!

A special Psy-Trance court of law should be set up, with Dovla and Trip presiding as the two judges. In this court we should put into law a ban on all the GOA compilations. Also why not ban all the YSE management from the psy scene all together? Also some temporarary psy trance party attendance ban on those who to bought and actually enjoyed listening to GOA compilations, how dare they drag the good name of Goa trance through the mud?

Yellow Sunshine Explosion is turning into a 'regular' label nowadays with artist releases like Chromosome, Andromeda, GMO and Herbal Essence (to name but a few) so I don't really see the problem. They put out a lot of compilations, that's true. But, where's the harm in that? You don't like 'em? Don't buy 'em! And IMHO they have some excellent compilations out nowadays. Take the Goa X, Progressive Goa Trance Vol. 2 or Area 51 compilations. Those have some really good quality tracks that you don't find elsewhere. And as for compilations like Tantra Trance, which has some good proggy tracks and a chill-cd... well, most of those tunes may be released before, but it's an excellent way to 'catch up' with some of the great releases if you've been out of the scene for a while, or if you're new to the scene. So, as far as I'm concerned, they can stay. They have some good mastering as well nowadays, since they hire 4Cn Studios to do most of their mastering

As I see it, they're pretty close to the legendary Goa Head and Destination Goa series - offering some of the biggest "hits" on the scene at the moment.

I've never bought one of the YSE compilations, but judging by the tracklists it looks like they're worth the money. Perhaps not for the most hardcore fans of the genre, who have all of the tracks already though.

On most of the CD's there's also tracks previously unreleased on CD, so that's a plus too for those who don't have Vinyl.

Perhaps it's commercial releases, but is it really that bad? If you don't like the idea, don't buy the CD's - but for the "newbie" people on the scene I think it's great to have releases like these. It's a jungle to keep track of all new releases, but here they get a taster of the biggest tracks at the moments, and hopefully they go out and buy some more, go to parties etc.

- Some of my first psytrance buys where Goa Head and Destination Goa compilations btw.

Concerning the name; Who cares? Perhaps it's a bit easy to label it as Goa, but still: There's a lot of people out there who haven't heard of full on, progressive psytrance, minimalistic, techtrance etc - but where the name "Goa" perhaps ring a bell.

Im with you pr0fane. Just one thing makes me feel bad. What the problem with the name GOA?
Goa is nostalgy and in our real days, better if u say "Destination Tel Aviv".
