I doubt very much that you can compare composing and dj'ing. How long does it take to compose an album and how long does it take to get a dj set ready?

That's why artists also sell albums. DJ's not (unless they compile it).

there is still only one thing that most people forgot here:

R U TALENT ENOUGH 2 MAKE PEOPLE DANCE ?

somthing that cant be evaluated in most people mind..

you can handle all, but got missed cause you just aint for this, or was closed to it, but didnt hit the exact point, there is risk in djing(and producing) , dont forget this...

what to do...

if one here could figure how much time and effort, not mentioning here money and life experience involved in being a smooth dj, the way that u so like, and offcourse at first true talent and passion to it, so thats y only few could do this proper and being paid well for it.

p.s. there is no difference in the time, equipment and other investments needed to be a good dj or a good producer, at least today's.

I have to agree with this one !
thrusting people into a dance and atmosphere requires a TALENT indeed !
it is almost unnecessary to say that a lot of d.js get paid for no talent, just for...name and reputation.           ..:: Let the MUSIC guide u in a world of COLOR ::..

IMHO, the dj is maybe the most important factor in a party, together with many other factors like the sound system, the quality of crowd and so on...
believe it or not, it usually takes months of practicing at home before any dj can mix. now that's a lot of time and effort. dj's also need to buy new music all the time, and some new expansive gear from time to time.
so u see, both dj's and artist deserve to be paid for what they do.
and also, as far as I know, the "big" dj's in Israel get about 1000 NIS for a gig. "hot" artists are getting paid even more, about 2500 NIS or so.
most of us "small" dj's get much less than that...
still think dj's should play for free??
