but the point is surely if you can hear them, not if you can see them.

What about the feeling?

wishbone

In invisible world i faced a difficulty to realise what mp3 was highest quality between b and c.

The on the other tunes i faced big difficulty on my home system at least to hear the difference between 320mp3 and wav.

Overall with this samples and with my home system i was able at least to hear the difference between wav and 192 mp3.

Ofcourse i could have just been lucky but thats another story.

Still i consider this test as not a valid and reliable one but it was fun trying.

LOL...too late DETOX.

You have really superior ears and fared much better than everyone who did the test without seeing the results first.
I can say I don't belive your results at all to be frank.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Actually Spindrift one can be just lucky with the results even by filling the answers at random.

Anyway these are my results and like i stated in the beggining i dont consider this test valid so i also dont consider any results valid too.I just played the game like anyone else i guess.

By the way what is the best program to encode my cds in wav?

Since you guys are into this kind of stuff you should be able to enlighten me i guess.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

To make wav from CD EAC (exact audio copy) should be the best.
I don't do much CD grabbing myself though, and just use wavelab wich have the ablility to read with several runs to ensure a minimum of error correction taking place.
A lot of consumer software will just do a hsty read, which will degrade the audio somewhat.

Encoding would be if you compress the files after grabbing.
For mp3 LAME is undisputably the best.
For recommendations of what options to use when encoding:

I mostly use FLAC which is the best lossless IMO. Your files will still be about 60% of the original, but you will retain a bit-by-bit copy of your wav file and play the file in winamp or burn it with your CD burning software without decoding it first.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Nolightatend the best test you can do is take a track from an already released and mastered cd (preferably of a well known artist and label since you can assure that the quality of the producer and of the mastering are at least good) convert the FULL TUNE in all wav,192 mp3 and 320 mp3,and then test them in a big soundsystem without knowing which version of the track is playing at each time.

This is the one and only test that is true and valid and can lead you to safe results and conclusions.

Happy now?           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

I agree with some of the critizism of this test, which admittedly have some flaws and can in no way be considered conclusive.
But I think we can discount that there is a huge difference that can be spotted from a mile away.

The thing is that there has been countless tests done on this subject.
People do tests regurlarly and the developers of the alogorithms rely on proper testing to assure that they achive the target of getting transparency while minimzing filesize.

The reason I put those files up there is to show the people claiming to know the difference that it is a lot harder to spot the difference when you actually don't know which file is what since the placebo will not color the results.

Obviously the countless tests already done that repeatedly confirm that people cannot tell the differnce have not made an impression on those who still think it's an obvious difference.

So to ask for more tests and claim that is has not been tested properly is just stubborn.
It has been tested by the very best ears in the audio industry on the very best mastering speakers, it have been tested on big PA's.
So before you ask for more tests or complain about the methology of this test at least bother to check on the conclusion of the many proper tests that have already been done.

@blue orb:
1. Current Best version of lame ?
3.97
2. Best Setting for 190VBR ....?
-V 2 --vbr-new

When looking over my own results it seems I actually thought the 192MP3 sounded BETTER.

LoL - I can give up any aspirations of becoming a mastering Jedi.

EYB, because Detox said so!

He can't get one thing, to taste what is water and what is oil enough just to drink half of glass and not full one, as well don't ask him why is that, he is way to complicated in his research. AND i want this test made at Himalaya mountain then it will be valid, and it's the only way, on the mountain peak there less pressure so sound can move faster.

Yes, now i think u are right. I have waited some time to see Detox arguments for his statement. I can't understand this coz he must have his reasons, but i can't imagine them.

Detox tell us more about testing mp3s!            Signature
