1) No one says there is an organised effort to keep progressive music out. It's about combining different styles of music to make the party more diverse & Intresting for the party goers. Thats whats its all about.

2) There is a demand for it for sure ! big promoters are playing SAFE and I totally understand why they do so, When you have something that works then why change it innit ? Well you change it for the crowd and stop thinking only about your own pocket.
The way the party scene looks like is SHAMBLES IMO, Same Dj's, Same Music, Same Venus, Same Backdrops, ETC.
No Concept to parties and no one IMO is trying to give the crowd a bit more then the usual. Iv been in talk with a few different party promoters that admit to the fact they gotta play safe and I respect them for their honesty.
BUT as time will show us a change will come and the people will need something different, something more diverse and intresting

3) All this idea that you need to be @ 146BPM and over at the morning time is nonsence IMO. When I'm off my head and had a bashing full-on set till the morning it would be nice to get some groove on the go and not constant noise.
And yes, I go to all big parties in London at least 2 twice a month to hear 8 hours of full-on music non stop. Most of it ain't even the good side of full-on IMO ( And I do love a good full-on set )

Coming from Israel, a country which Full-on is very big there as you all know, I can tell you that if in Israel you have a nice following of people that like both progressive and full-on and had enuf with only full on music parties for years & years, this side of the scene is growing bigger and bigger and you see more and more diverse parties with different artists all the time
I'm positive it will be the same here in the UK A matter of time and a matter of getting people to hear the music and giving them more in future parties ( we are on the move to have more parties like that so i'm not just talking )

You mention all this economic issues and I do understand like anyone else that people make money to bring food on the table but thats not whats it's about IMO.
Some people have lost the spirit of what a psy trance party is about and only thinking of the money involved. wanna spend as little as they can so they have more left.
This isn't the sales buissness ( at least not for me ) and sure is not for the crowd that comes and pays a NOT CHEAP amount of money when they come to the parties accros town.
maybe people should start thinking of it as well.

My 2 cents

Apart from there being a demand for progressive, which there is, there's also the point that quite a few party people are not followers of the actual music... they just go out to have a good time. And all they get to hear is full-on (on the Commercial side most). So they know little different. But when I have been invited to play at a full-on party I have had huge reactions, as I'm sure some people hear can tell you. Progressive doesn't have to be minimal (although thats quite nice for the start) but can still can be full of power and emotion, just with more deeper groove, slower bpm and interesting structures (IMO). And at the end of a craking party I enjoy a bit slower, deeper music that actually induces trance state and hooks you in... rather than more banging male fulled trance! So if this quite large number of punters that just go out for the sake of a good time (which its' all about in the first place) and they actually had merge of prog & full-on and a build up and down to there night I think they would enjoy it even more! I know I would!

Sorry... i did try and move this to another thread... I just wanted to respond to MonasticSquid interesting comments.

Surley the obvious thing to do if there is no one doing parties of your particular style of music, be it prog, dark, old skool, new skool or mongolian nose flute psy-gabba is to.... put them on yourself!!

*If* there's the demand then you'll be Mr & Mrs popular for giving everyone what they want, quids in with all the door money AND have somewhere to go and have a dance to your fave DJs...

or alternatively you could just moan that no one else is doing it...

you are right, and ever since the thread started i have been thinking exactly that. lacking the experience to do it is what holds me back but perhaps its worth the try. and not for the money or for the 'popularity' as you put it, but for having a nice time out myself! So, having thought about it i think it would take a couple of months to set it up (a complete dummie...but im up for it).Any help or advise from people who have organised events themselves or anyone interested in joining forces please pm me.and see what comes out of it....i reckon there has to be a start,i believe the music will then do the work alone...Support?

Depsite what pople might have you believe - it may be hard work putting on parties- but its not rocket science... you book a venue, book a line up, print up some flyers and then say good bye to any spare time you may have had in the next two months to dish out flyers at ungodly hours, go round far too many record & clothes shops putting up posters, chat up magazine whats on/feature writing people, post on endless internets sites blah blah blah blah....

Then hopefully - if you've got your sums correct, and you dont accdiently clash with soemone, or there's three free parties on the same night, or suddenly your sort of music has become unfashionable - you'll make all your money back and have a great night!

..fair question Glen ..& also Mr Buju

hopefully our night in Dorset(Vanilla Penguin..starts 16 September) will be able to do the theme with regularity.

The reasoning that it needs to be a twelve hour plus baash doesn't totally wash.
Our night will unfortunately have a 2 a.m. ending, ..which is obviously not ideal.
But even with this, we are still going to try to make it a journey (or maybe in this case a small trip...but nothing wrong with tripping eh?!).
Wer'e haveing an hour of light trancey psy, then 1.5 hours of prog, then 1.5 of full-on.
If a restricted hours night like ours can do it, it would be nice to see other ,longer nights do the same.. its good to get variety surely.

Vanilla Penguin 16 Sept 2005
Dorchester , Dorset. 10pm - 2 a.m.
A Domorecords label promotion night .
