I'm glad that someone has finally brought up this suubject again. I had raised a similar subject some time ago in here but unfortunately the response was quite disappoijnting. It seems that now though the response is better.

I'm with you all the way Glen to what you have said about the music played in parties nowadays. London has turned its back on proggy music, but whenever I happened to go to a party that played proggy the crowd really enjoyed it.

I wish that this situation will change soon, because at the end of the day, it's not about playing only full-on or only prog, but offering musical diversity to the people that like to go to a decent party.

I also come from 11 years of partying from the first psy-trance era (and not GOA for me) of Blue Room, Matsuri etc. and I do fancy listening to good full-on music, but not for a whole night! All I mean is that this is not about another one full-on vs prog thing here.

I wish that alll promoters will acknowledge the fact that change is needed, because to put it simple, parties have become musically boring by playing the same style of music over and over again... (with some exceptions of course).
Don't hope 2 much 4 something cause u may end up getting it...

Seems to be enough need here for some prog. I am new to London, so not so knowledgeable, how hard is it to organise small scale gigs??

Lux you so right mate... this isn't about full-on vs prog! Myself and nearly all my friends like both. it's just that the full-on in London can become samey... as most of the parties it always the same dj's and they all like a certain style... so you end up with eight hours of the same thing (of course there are exceptions). And I'm not saying it would be any different the other way round, if it was prog all night... it would be the same... maybe!

What I want to see is that musical journey that we used to get years ago at RTTS, Otherworld, Pagan, Subliminal Psychedelia, Skybabies, etc. Maybe something like dark/tribal prog from 10-12. Then some psy trance and full-on 12-4, the morning groovy prog and a few prog monster pumping stuff 4-till closing.

Of course there is quite a bit of difference in bpm's, but you just need to get the dj's to work together to blend... it's really not that hard!

Anyway, I think we will be seeing this at the odd party or two later this year... keep your eyes open peeps!

London doesn't know progression sorry guys but that is true... all dj's play the same old cheesy old tracks at even 1 o' clock at night .. You enter
a gig and it feels it's all the same till the end..

I don't mean to offend anyone but the truth is London is a based on a mind set of fluffy morning music.. If u play something harder people just think
You are "EVIL"..

Grow up guys and accept more styles in this music..
If U like so much cheese listen To Britney spears,
or Jennifer Lopez..

Psytrance should not be treated like house music!!

Electric Crusade parties are all about giving you a banging night with a little morningish touch towards the end to wrap up the scene with proper grace.. Not playing just cheese from 10-6...

gosh London please change this mind-set.. I'm afraid about the city's future!!!

As you have shown in your post, one man's banging is another man's cheese. The common them in this thread is Play any style too much and it will become cheesy.

At Baraka we lost our chillout room at the end of last year, due to club refurbishment, and so the importance for progression made itself felt. When there are multiple rooms in a club, then people are free to make their own choice as to the style of music they listen to at a particular time.

With one room now, the night does get a little dull if the same music style is played throughout. So we are sticking to the line-up of the first couple of hours Psybreaks/chill/prog then up the tempo towards the end (only 3am in our case)

I strongly agree with Glen and Lux that it isn't about one music style vs another. Perhaps its just a question of time before the small scale parties that do have musical progression get a big enough following for the promoters to be able to feel comfortable about taking the risk and increasing their budgets.

Yeah what do you mean by that??? I can be sure to say that some quality house music from the right dj's can really be a trip through sound! From the funky rock of infusion to the wierdness and bleep grooves of James Holden can really take the dance floor places.

Anyway, back to the point, as Brij said this isn't about comparing musical styles... this about the dance floors having some progression and journey!

but your party had the same music all night anyway.

and the reason theres so much fluff in the U.K. in the uk is because a lotof us still love melodies and shit. yeah i like dark stuff to but everything has it's place.

and as for knocking house?

just shows what a small minded dolt you are innit.

mekkanika maybe not but it all still sounds like dungadungadunga sample dungadungadunga buildup and so-on.

and if you like house why slag it off?

your arguement makes no sense.

cant u guys see "why so little prog in london???" and not "why so little dark in london???" or "your party was this and that?" as a topic for this thread?

I agree, we need more. Im tired of having nowhere to go to listen to the music i like and having to travel to denmark, germany, sweden(even hungary has more proggy stuff this summer!!!). Its fun but how often can you do it? The weird thing is that progressive labels are selling like mad in london, why isnt this reflected in the parties? Its insane to be in london and not have ANYWHERE to go. DMT has put on a couple of descent nights but at the end of the day you feel like a sardine!!!! And by the way progressive can also be dark....How come artists like antix, haldolium, son kite, sbk, frogacult, freq have not been here to play???Are we for real??????Music will change, cant be listening the same stuff for 10 years, evolution takes place, and since we buy it why dont we start dancing to it in parties???Could be fun.....Please someone do something....
