When you are dj'ing, do you play for the crowd or for your self?
i mean do you play the tracks you like or the tracks the crowd like?
i play for my self, because i can get a much more perfect and wicked set with the music i like, because i listen to it at home  , but i know many djs who play for the crowd, because they want to be a big dj.

I’m not a DJ myself, but I don’t see the point in DJ’ing if you play tracks you don’t like, and quite frankly – do the world need more DJ’s only playing floorfillers?
Play what you like, find your own style. If you play your own favourites, I’m quite sure you’ll be a lot more committed to your set, thus making it a better.

If you DJ just for yourself, why leave the house and play at parties?? for your ego?
you are playing for a crowd of people most of whom are high and sensitive to the music, and you have to lead them with your music into some magical place. so take your Dj mission seriously.
but only play tracks that you like. |

u play for the journy u and every one else are part of...the DJ's duty is to do the "navagating" that will enable to properly continue the voyage....
if the navigation is not proper,usually caused by the will of the navigator(ego)to see the sapceship go crazy....the missle will pass Mars and wonder in to no where.....
ofcourse i like listening to my fav' tunes while looking down at mother earth...ahhhhh so beautiful....but if that pisses off the other members of the sapceship...well....i press the eject botton and float freely in to infinity(with my headphones on)....

i presonally never play tracks that i do not like at all - but the main goal is to keep the people dancing  i think there is no sense in playing a set which nobody would dance to, but - i get more satisfaction playing when i make people dance to the tracks that are not known and not so 'easy dancing'
so - i think the best way for the DJ is to enjoy both the tracks and the joy of the dancers.

I've done both, but it's tough playing prog/melodic on some crowds when all they want is FULL ON... bah. But when I play full-on I'll drop the limited amount of stuff I like, not the corny old "ah, track 7" method
Full-on has got to be psychedelic to be interesting to me though... so, tracks like Penta - None of this is Real, and Human Blue - Demon Dance...

It depends where you're playing, Psycox. For example, I play what I think people wants to listen to at The Tube, while at bigger events, I play what I want to listen to, cuz there's always enough people, that some or more will dance to it. It IS your job to read people and play something they want to dance to.
And of course, I prefer the bigger parties - always a bit more fun  |
