indeed, but that's why it's now a diff in styles; psy or full-on.
full-on trance does not claim to be psychedelic; it has to give many things as it is, but there are a lot psy producers around that keep vibing, although times made some of them turn their style as easy listening (or commercial in our community) as full-on.

Tiesto is not psychedelic as than even israeli fullon, thou some trance artists with deep trance are much more psychedelic than current fullon. Psytrance still alive, not everything is fullon these days!

Imo even Tiesto is more psychedelic than 99% of full on. Some other sub genres however remain psychedelic. And that feels good           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

actually, user unfinishedsymphony wanted to know the difference between "normal" trance heard on the radio and psychedelic trance. as usual, we start bashing fullon. how does this help anyone who obviously feels a bit lost in vocabulary here??

trance is much more straight than psytrance imo. the melodies are simple (not always in case of chords, but sound). if i listen to such records i imagine myself running on a straight line into somewhere, usually nowhere.
for me, psytrance has much more ups and downs. this is what makes trance psychedelic imo. the melodies are not as static, they are moving, with sweeping filters, changing resonance and all possible effects. plus, psytrance usually contains shitloads of strange sounds and noises, whereas radio trance music mostly is plain melodic boom boom music.

of course, there also differencies in case of structure. our daily trance sounds to me like built around the main melody only, if you would take the melody away you would erase the soul of the tune. this is different in psytrance imo, not every part in a tune is made as an appetizer for the main melody, but as a stand-alone ingredient itself.

years ago the most significant difference were the melodies themselves...psy-/goatrance used to have fucking beautiful orientally inspired melodies, arabian, indian, turkish sounding, whereas "trance" most of the times uses "traditional" melodies from the oczident.

but yeah, how everyone said it already....music as described by me above is becoming extinct very very fast, or already is

hope you can do something with this

Today's Son Kite and Ticon are not that much more Psychedelic as well. Who cares? Great music none the less.

And btw.
Psychedelic does not necessarily equals good.
