I said IMHO, although a lot of full-on is crap IMHO and not especially psychedelic. TIesto is IMHO 0 percent psychedelic.

whenever u feel like your floating in space , then it's psy, the sounds used in psy are not usually present in the normal commercial trance. i'm not familiar with all the technical words of music, but u can always tell the difference. |

I miss nothing at all but you do, Willy.. It's not about "defining" psytrance (while it is obvious there are different styles..) but about explaining the main differences between mainstream trance and so-called psychedelic trance..

psychedelia is referred to the enhancing of the perceptional abilities, or to the ability of enhancing perception of new dimensions.
so some music can have psychedelic properties to some people and some other to some other people
i think if we want an escape from this trap of relativity we have to see psychedelic music as the music listened by the people aiming to psychedelical experiences: for exemple Hoffman prescribed for lsd trips classical music wich relaxes the mind (or the whole individual) helping the subject to feel free to let himself slide into this new realm of perception.
therefore psychedelic trance is so called because of the use of determinated substances is preponderating in the scene, since the music itself is not a must for such experience.
what makes psy-trance so "psy" is the fact that all the people gathering in such parties is aiming to a perceptional expantion, and once again not the music itself |

But Tiesto. He looks like a great guy having good fun and I bet he works his ass off touring and with press etc... I commend him for his hard work. But psychedelic? Where, what, how and when

This is the closest to psychedelic Tiesto has gotten in the last year Walking On Clouds (featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw) ... And I have not heard the vocals in the sample. No elasticity in the sound, no psychedelic build ups, no twists and turns, no tunnel effect... JUst straight hard trance 909 percussion. 1993/4 club trance. That is what he does, great X music. Nothing wrong with that.... but not psychedelic.
I think there is a big difference between what is called psychedelic trance and trance that is trully psychedelic. Not that the music that is not psychedelic is bad or inferior, but it is just not psychedelic.
